Could anyone give me some advice on NCT antenatal classes. We found out that our PCT only offers antenatal classes in the day, reading between the lines I think that this might actually be to exclude fathers being embarrassed (according to the midwife). They do offer a labour in motion class for both of us that we can go to.

I signed up for the NCT classes because these are in the evenings and initially I thought we could meet the cost at £173 but now we are coming to my last 3 months of my full pay it will be a bit a of struggle to find the money. We wouldn't qualify as low paid for their subsidy. What I wanted to know was whether they are worth paying for. I am living in a new area and I don't really know many people and I thought the NCT might be a good way of meeting people although the classes are are about 5 miles away.

Anyone got any experiences of the classes and are they worth it?

Thanks and happy new year to you all xx

I have no experience of these classes but was in the same predicament as you as I didnt want to get stuck with daytime classes because of work. I have had to stump up £289 for my classes (6 classes in all) so count yourself lucky that yours are £173!!!! I have had to take mine out of babys savings account and I am paying it back into there at £50.00 a month. As a first time mum who also doesnt know anyone in the area I have seen it as an investment in babys future.

I think there is an option to pay the money in installments if you talk to the administrator of the NCT classes in your area. That might ease the pinch slightly.

  • I went to antenatal classes alone when I was having Aimee and I don't recall there being any men there until the final class which was active birthing... I do think women who go to NCT ones are more likely to stay in touch though, I didn't see anyone from my antenatal classes again but friends of mine who went to NCT ones still meet up with people from theirs 5 years ago...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

I wanted to curl up in bed with OH tonight, indtead i'm on me Jack, the only consolation is I will have a better nights sleep, minus him fiddling with my fingers and stroking my face all night
