popped into my local woolies today and it was rubbish, dh picked up a few toys thinking hes gotten a bargain as had 20% off them, but he was still charged more than the RRP

i think PC world will be next, £30bn in debt, not far off what woolies owe

Neither PC world nor Woolies are £30bn in debt, that's just stupid.
I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?

  • Principles or Wallis ???- went to the shops tonight & Principles had 50% off. Wallis was decked out like the January sales with more clear floor space than I'd ever seen......Like everyone else I saw with NO bags, I did not buy anything, am just sticking to essentials and waiting to see how low it will go before it becomes silly to resist! It's quite sad really for our shopping nation. What needs to happen to change it or is it just rebalancing of over inflated prices? :rudolf:

Didn't they have problems a while back. I seem to recall they got rescued at the last minute, but not before some stores had already closed (Newcastle city centre and Metro centre for 2).

I would bet on WHSmiths as well, although I have found they are competitive on books with Amazon etc I can't see how it would be sustainable in the long term when you factor in the extra costs of staff & shop premises etc.

So do you think smiths will go down the same path as wollies then

why do u say Monsoon and Accessorize?

i love some of the girls monsoon clothing, my daughter does too, but it is just too pricey, i got her a dress from there cost £48.00 with 20% discount.

as to who goes next no-one i hope, but on the grapevine i heard that toysrus, wilkinsons, dixons are in "trouble", but this is just what i have heard.

adams are still going, wasnt it a problem with leases or something, i pop into adams now and then and order online when free delivery but rarely buy from there now, prefer next really and they are similar in price.

  • Just wait till you hear your local's date of closure then you should get UP TO 90% off!

thanks maccaandclaire for your updates and all the best in getting another job if your store closes:A

my lads friend has just called, he also works in Woolworths, absolutely gutted about what is going on as you say just wait and see about further reductions.
He was abused this evening as the store closed early instead of late night shopping because it was utter carnage where shoppers had thrown stuff all around, walked on it and the store had to be sorted for tomorrow. Little stock is now coming through, he works on the music section and they literally have 5 music disks left to sell  , management of that store are saying nothing and they are getting their info like us from the media, today saw the arrival of the future reduction banners and also fixture and fittings signs that will be sold also in store if there shop isnt took over
they have just one middle range Xbox 360 left which has a 20% reduction , a very empty stock room and are spreading the remaining stock around the store to try and fill the gaps :D

He is expecting the store to struggle through till christmas eve when they are being paid up to , but on a plus side he has been told he can go in whenever he has a 4 hour gap to fill [ he is doing A levels] up till then as the wages will be honoured, all the temp christmas staff walked as their wages wernt guaranteed so they are a few staff down

the receivers are to blame for todays anger and the further discounts will be applied but I think at the moment it will depend on which stores are took over and which will be left empty as to which stores these further reductions get the go ahead to run

oh yes, should have mentioned this earlier, two customers got themselves into bother by assaulting a female cashier when the items did not have 50% off them at the till  they were dealt with by the boys in blue

As someone posted earlier the staff arn't there to be abused, it isnt their fault and TBH we at home with access to the internet and tv all day probably know more of what is going on than they do

Best wishes and good luck to you all that are reading and working under these conditions.
