Extra day's trading at Woolworths
Woolworths stores that were expected to close on Friday will remain open for another day of business, administrators Deloitte said.
Two hundred outlets were due to shut on Friday but this has been postponed to Saturday.
The final closure deadline for the retailer has also been delayed by a day, with the remaining 200 stores now set to close on January 6.
A spokesman for Deloitte said: "There are two main reasons for delaying the closures. One, stock levels - there's still some stock remaining. Two, workload - it's a big logistical exercise. The remaining dates were delayed to allow time for the final arrangements to be made."
More than half the UK stores have already shut down.poppy100 -

More than half the UK stores have already shut down. At least 150 of the retailer's 807 outlets held their last day of trading on December 30, with everything, including the fixtures and fittings, on sale at discount prices.0 -

Most stores seem to drop to 90% on the afternoon of their last day, and then start throwing out scandalous bargains in the last hour or two, just to get rid of stock. Stay until it closes if you can.0 -
I don't know if I can buy another thing from there.... this is disgusting...

Yeah, it's sad for the Jersey staff who aren't getting a redundancy package from the administrators, but to be fair, they hardly pay any tax, so they can't expect the same generosity from the welfare state of the mainland.poppy100 -
Whilst I don't disagree with the sentiment, we need to be clear about the role of the Administrator. The Administrator is not a "manager" but someone whose job is to extract as much money from the business as possible. And that money goes to paying off the creditors - creditors whose business might also be threatened, as Woolies have not paid their debts e.g. to their suppliers.
Jobs might also be at risk at Woolies' suppliers, so every £1 that the Administrator can secure might actually save another job, elsewhereWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0
