Whilst I don't disagree with you, the Administrator cannot make "unauthorised" payments. If the (local) law doesn't provide for a redundancy payment, then the Administrator has no power to pay one. Unless, of course, the business has enough money to do so. But if it did, then it's likely it wouldn't be in Administration anyway.

Went woolworths today there was hardly anything left, don't think they will stay open till half five today, lots of people there, but didn't have to queue long.

Yes but the point is, is that the Administrators did consider it and then decided not to give them anything...

I being redundant myself at the end of November and hardly getting anything just feel sorry for those people who still have to pay their bills and mortgages and have given so much of their lives into working for a company that has failed them miserably!

Yeah, it's sad for the Jersey staff who aren't getting a redundancy package from the administrators, but to be fair, they hardly pay any tax, so they can't expect the same generosity from the welfare state of the mainland.

Yes thats down to Statutory pay which they are not legally entitled to of course, but the company and the adminstrators can pay them anything they want to though it's down to them...

While it is good for you to have a bargain spare a thought for the staff who might not be getting any redundancy.

Personally I cannot buy anything from Woolies as the thought of these staff losing their jobs is terrible and I cannot bear to gain from this.

The word vulture comes to mind in some examples in this thread.....
  • Thats a brilliant haul you've got there, very impressed. Was hoping to pick up a console maybe in the ones around here during closing but nothing doing. Was more than pleased with the CDs, DVDs and PS2 games I picked up though and now those around me are all shut I can sit back and say I'm pleased with what I've picked up but sad to see Woolies go.
