Halifax Regular Saver 7.00% (Fixed)

  • I've given up looking for juicy rates, personally. In the summer I would switch at the bat of an eyelid, but now there's no point. By the time your money gets to your new account, it's bound to be worse than your previous account was. I'm staying put til things start to look up.

Though I am thinking of moving a bit of money back into Kaupthing Edge... It beats HSBC's paltry offerings on the instant access front :P But HSBC's so convenient for me... ah, the difference is going to be pennies, in the end.

I hope HSBC keep their regular saver rate at 8% til the end of December at least... I might open one earlier than planned, just in case.

I should have thought about that, as there is a Halifax near where I work. But even with a cheque wouldn't they need to wait for the cheque to clear? Surely the only way it would have worked would be by paying cash over the counter?

With a cheque it's the date you hand over the cheque that counts, not the date that it clears.
  • I will phone them tomorrow and see what they say.

These rate cuts have come at exactly the wrong time for me - these years were about saving and a decent interest rate would have made all the difference.
  • Just opened mine online and phoned telephone banking on 08457 203040 and asked them to transfer £25 from my current account to the Regular Saver, which they say they have initiated and that it should be there in about 1 hour, so fingers crossed!

No .... the credit establishes the account. It doesn't have to be cleared funds.

EDIT .... sorry rb10 ... was reading backwards and missed your reply!

  • When exactly did the rate drop? My first deposit is now showing online at the Halifax as received today (11th).
Their website says the rate is 6% & correct as at tomorrow (12th).
Does this mean I made it in time or will I only get 6%?

If it was received on 11th, I'd expect you to get 7%. You will get a certificate confirming the rate through the post in the next few days.

Set up an account online on 9th, first SO left my bank 11th, before drop in rates but has not reached Halifax a/c yet. I didn't see reduction until tonight so I rang Halifax as soon as I saw it had reduced. They advised me to ring the Savings Dept on Monday to see if they will give me the 7% but she could not guarantee it.
