Early this afternoon I was thinking that my chances of being successful in the ballot for a place in The Great North Run (half marathon), were probably nil.

A friend of mine said they had applied two years in a row and didn't get through, so they got a place by raising money for a charity (they had to raise at least £350 for the charity they chose).

Today, I spent over an hour researching charities to run for before I went out to run some errands.

Just got in and checked my Inbox and I have been given a place. :j

I've got the next 7 months to do some serious training.
    Wish me luck!
  • Good luck with the training...great result with the place.

I am getting better with the training and managing 5 days a week now (as workload has settled down at work).

I still can't believe that I'll be doing a half marathon in September.

Good luck with the Manchester run! I'm doing it as well! Not brave enough to do a half marathon yet though!

Before I throw anything away, I check on eBay for completed listings of the items to see if there is someone who is prepared to pay money for it.

I usually use 'Buy it Now' or Best Offer, so that I can have some guarantee of what I will sell an item for.
Sometimes an auction can be a real lottery and you can get a lot more (or less) than you expect.

Nice tip for e-bay. Never sold anything, but DH has loads of stuff that we may be looking at selling in the not too distant future.
