Excellent news piq, never mind serious debt busting in the new year, sounds like you've already made a fantastic start on that one. Its so easy to stick Christmas on the credit card, so sounds like youve done fantastic not to do so and without touching December's pay.
£50 of Sains vouchers is great, always nice to get something you didn't expect. i wish i'd used my Sains £10 voucher the other day when i went, keep meaning to use it, but was so ill with the lurgy ended up walking round the shop in a daze. Still, the good thing about me being ill is my OH has taken himself off to the spare room so he doesn't catch it, meaning i am sleeping alone!!:j Live on £4500, £2531/£4500:T 101 in 1001 (52/101):j:beer::j

Hi Piq my love!
I am chuffed for you about not spending anything on c/c's this xmas!:j I'm excatly the same and feel so proud of myself! In fact this year, I have spent less on everyone than I did last year on OH alone!
Also, good on you for having the determination not to touch your early monthly pay...very proud of you!

Aw shucks
:o:o thanks guys, I've never not gone mad on the old card before. This is the first year I've ever budgeted for Christmas and only spent about a tenth of what I would normally throw at it. Next year I think I will make the cards and tags, I didn't think of it soon enough this year
This is extra embarrassing as I am actually an artist by trade...
I did use the credit card for a couple of on-line buys, but I paid it off straight away and rounded it up to the next £10. So, for example, if I bought something for £14.99 I paid £20 straight off the card. Thinking about it, I have, therefore, paid off a little bit extra :j
I seem to have finally got my head around that a credit card is not free money! I will keep one for emergencies and online shopping, but will either pay it straight back or have a plan for paying back larger amounts and I will stick to it. I've proved to myself I can do this quite easily.
I've also noticed there are very few things I actually need, it's always things I want, and the urge normally goes away after a couple of days...Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

You'd probably make your fortune! anything goes these days...
Last time I went to the Tate Modern they had a glass of water on a shelf as an art exhibit, admittedly, there is no painting involved in that one. But mickey I'm sure you could sell your tags as modern artTotal debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

23 December
Had my renewal notice through for breakdown recovery - it has doubled, even though I didn't use it last year!
There was plenty of waffle on it about me being a valued customer and giving me membership discounts, but, nevertheless, it was £82.9, it was £42.00 last year!!. I got a quote from the same company online and that came in at £76.25, so how does that work then?
Whilst I was on a roll, I went through Quidco and got quotes from all the breakdown recovery companies, with cashback, I can get it down to £25.00!
Called the offending company and gave them a small piece of my mind, rip off of existing customers blah blah. They matched the cheapest quote, but I'm not going to give them my custom, I'm really annoyed with them. They seem to want to milk the existing customer, do they think that I'm that stupid that I wouldn't check it all out?
Bit of a rant there - oops....Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30
