Not entirely true, I know someone whose husband was on nearly £40K a year and they still got over £500 in CTC - why?
Yes thats what i was saying - when you get to around £25,000 regardless of whether you have 1,2 or 3 kids you get £547.50 a year - around £10.45 a week. This remains the same until you get to the point where it stops around £50,000.
Your friend would receive the same amount even if he got £5,000 more or £10,000 less. It is dependant on income upto around £50,000 but between £25,000 - £50,000 is the same amount

CTC replaced childrens tax credit which in turn replaced married mans allowance- it is just a juggling with figures

How often is the £500 paid?

    We get £10.22 per week.

    Edited to say-

Ignore this, I've just realised from Spendless' post, it's per year.

    hear hear

i fall into this trap as well, not so bad in the term time now shes at school but what do you do in the holidays, i would be working and i would probably be out of pocket as childcare costs are so high down here for the holidays.

How do people do it thats what i want to know :-/
There are 2 sets of triplets in my sons year - both mums work - one relies on help from her MIL the other employs an au-pair
My sister with twins works because she relies on my mum - who also works full-time - but has the twins on her days off

Not wanting to put any more kids on my mum and ill-health/old age rules out other family members is what leaves me stuck.

I don't know about where you are Divadee but the working mums round here either rely on relatives help or are single and get help through WTC.

Would be interested to know how much holiday playschemes are in Bournemouth - here is is £9 got a half day 8-1 or 1-6 and £16 for full day 8-6 per child - have to take a packed lunch

    another misconception,

if you work and earn enough to stop you being entitled to any benefits other than child benefit, it is assumed you are well off.........! :-/
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

Poppy is quite right too - who do you think is going to be working in 20 years time supporting an ageing population
    Poppy is NOT right.

I think I am still going to be working in 20 years time to support myself, and no-one else will be doing it for me.

I am unexpectedly unemployed again at the moment - it's been two weeks. No way am I going to walk into a benefit office this time. They have absolutely NOTHING to offer me. It's like tieing yourself to the biggest lead ball you can imagine for the price of a cup of tea if you are lucky.

It's all bullsh*t. BBEB. Bullsh*t Baffles Electorate Brains.

    What's that supposed to mean?

Are you suggesting that if I am not enjoying good health then my country will support me? I don't buy that either.

so what would you do if you were to have a stroke say - like both my grandads did in their 50's - paralysed all down one side their dominant side (both right handed) and left unable to talk, write, wash etc - one could walk with the aid of a stick, one was in a wheelchair. They lived for 25 and 16 years respectively after this happened.
Neither was able to go back to work - both grans had to pack in work to look after their husbands. How do you think they managed?
Only due to DLA, carers allowance etc - all money from government that comes from taxpayers

You've lost me Mistletoe and wine

you start by saying that there is help given to families rather than childless couples

and then go on to complain about the lack of maternity poay you'll receive :-/

My point is that however it works we get shafted to pay more taxes, yet get nothing in return....

I just pop in now and then.... :)
