He is just buying them to sell on. It seems.
Waiting for his next "cost cutting" reply I know what thread he's been reading. :rolleyes:0 -

I buy my bubble wrap from Viking Direct.
He's most likely bought them to sell on, hence the comment about his profit margins. :dance:0 -
I agree with Muffy0 - He is taking the P£*s. I sell a lot on ebay and I admit it I guess the P&P charges I have not got time to weigh measure everthing so I take an educated guess and add a bit on for packaging, driving to post office etc... Sometimes I win sometimes I lose. But at the end of the day the P&P charges are there to see before any one bids so they cannot complain after winning the item. If I was you I would e-mail saying those are the P&P charges and they were stated in the auction prior to him bidding so that is what he must pay. If he does not pay in so many days I would file an unpaid item dispute. I would never give in to someone like this never never never I am far too stubborn. Cheeker Buggar!!0

If he didn't ask before hand, he probably doesn't even expect to get a discount, but it's always worth asking regardless if a seller can discount slightly from what they stated in the listing (again, please do this before bidding people
).
If you stuck a specific service in the listing, and he's asking if you could send it by a cheaper service, by all means look in to it, and if you're feeling generous refund him the difference, but there's no need for you to do it unless you've agreed to previously. I wouldn't worry about what you reply to him, he probably does this all the time so he's probably used to people giving a whole range of replies.
Personally on my listings I give multiple options for all postage and payment methods, and regularly ask anyone who doesn't if they could send it any cheaper as I've no problem waiting a week for things. I'm yet to have anyone who's contacted me with the same questions though, in fact I'm constantly having to email multiple item bidders to tell them what combined postage would be without them even asking. Though I'm always tempted to just charge them full costs and not spend another 15 minutes re-weighing and pricing stuff
Oh and check out the courier thread. You could probably get them posted for ~£8. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=11909550 -

If you said you were posting via Royal mail then stick to that. I HATE waiting in for couriers that are not guaranteed to turn up. I always take personally to the parcel force depot even though it costs me a little more.May £10 a day challenge£19.61/£310Ebay challenge...£12.61/£2000

That happened to me too on a much smaller scale -- the buyer asked me if I'd change the postage to second class (from first class) -- I had no option but to refund her 50p on Paypal and do as she suggested. You could charge him a bit for packing and let him send his own courier? Appreciate they will be heavy but £12 does add significantly to the cost.
I would not negotiate at all, if the p&p charges were listed under the sellers standard rate it goes without saying that it is non negotiable. Its probably best to always state in your listings that this is the case and they should contact you with q's before they bid/buy. I know ebay has changed alot and it seems like the buyer has power over the seller -this simply is not the case, thier bid is a contract -ebay double checked when they entered their bid and they continued regardless. If they dont pay slap a dispute on them and end it with a strike. the worst they can do is leave a negative fbk and tbh sellers are going to have to get used to this as ebays fbk system is highly unfair now. if it were the other was round and you emailed them and said hey thanks for your winning bid but I'm sorry I made a mistake whilst listing and need to charge you extra -the buyer would be outraged wouldnt they?!
fairs fair

Hate to bring it up, but he's only trying something which is suggested by Martin on the main part of this very website!
