Send him an email back saying, after receiving your email I decided it would only be fair to review my postage costs, having viewed other auction of similar items I have come to the conclusion that £15 would more reflect the true cost of this package and will adjust your invoice accordingly, send him some links to his own auctions to justify your price increase lmao.

In an ideal world, thats what I would do, but being diplomatic, think I will just gently tell him that he has to pay the full cost and gently point him towards his own auctions and say - "if you sell so many golf clubs and charge £15, looks like i'll make a loss on my costs"

I would tell him that when he won the auction, the p&p charges were clearly listed - you can't go trying to change them after the auction has been won. Cheeky so and so!

A schoolboy error - buying and selling from the same account...

Check the buyer is registered as a business seller while you are at it!

First of all, there is nothing stupid about wanting to negotiate cheaper delivery, and I think it's rather cynical (and pathetic) of some people to suggest that the buyer is just trying to con the seller. I'm sure that if this was reversed, and it was the buyer asking for advice on getting cheaper delivery, you would be more helpful.

Anyway, why not try setting up an economy delivery by:

    http://www.parcel2go.com/parcel-delivery.aspx

It will cost about £8.22 (inc vat), and they collect from your front door, or any specified collection address. Parcel2Go is recommended by eBay, so you are fully covered, in fact they are probably better to use than Royal Mail truth be told.

I appreciate that you may not be familiar with how eBay works by this statement, but the buyers sees the P&P price BEFORE they place a bid or offer to Buy It Now. many other e-tailers require you to put in the order details before you get a shipping price, so ebay has a huge advantage on this matter.

Besides, the seller is liable for ensuring safe delivery to the buyer, and certain criteria must be met in order for the seller to be protected under the paypal terms. I, and mant other posters on here, have been around eBay long enough to know the common scams and tricks - this has a lot of signs of being one of them, and the OP needs to be aware of the risks.

There is also the small matter of the packaging material - it does not come free, and I'm sure the buyer would be the first to complain if the items arrrived damaged - even though the buyer arranged the courier, the seller is still liable for any losses.

Courier companies may seem ideal, but in reality it is not often as smooth as they like to make out. Is the seller willing to hang around one place all day waiting for the courier? What if it does not turn up, who makes the phone calls to sort the problem, and who then has to wait around another day for the courier to re-arrange.

My advise to the OP - clearly state the P&P charged is fair and non-negotiable. The buyer has bid and won, and therefore they need to pay the full price, on your terms, or face an unpaid item strike.

We do not need buyers like that on eBay. Stand up to them, do not set a precedent. If they get away with it on your sale, they will see no reason to try it again with another seller. And so the problem perpetuates.

  • Zenseeker good tip re Parcel to go - a colleague at work uses them for his big Ebay sales and highly recommends them ... as you say, there is nothing wrong with trying to find a cheaper way of posting the goods, the only issue is that buyers frequently forget that the packing materials, and time for you to take the item to the GPO does cost the seller, so it's not as simple as the basic postal rate. I didn't mind when my buyer wanted me to send the goods second class for a discount -- although now I don't specify first class in my listings ... you live and learn!! Good luck to the original poster anyway - what a joke him charging £15 and trying to beat you down!

What is the total price and what would be the Paypal fee on that?

Tell him that you will reduce the p&p charge if he pays you by bank transfer or cheque or cash.

That would save you the Paypal fee.

    Both sides win.
