    :D Morning

Had a good weekend not spending, children had a christmas party on saturday so did'nt spend anything on keeping them entertained:D ,just had to drop them off and pick them up 2 hours later they had their party tea and came home with a christmas present each, so 2 happy, tired little beings.

Sunday we went visiting reletives, dropping off christmas presents, had sunday lunch at my aunties.

So a no spend weekend and this morning checked my bank account to find A&L have paid me £100 for changing my bank account to them.So i am going to pay off Vertbaudet and keep £30 back as emergency money for this week as i don't get paid until Friday and what i have left i will pay off Next.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hi
Had a good couple of days not spending.
Been paid today so have £500 in my account:D , Capital one bill landed through the door this morning balance with interest is £2891.43:eek: , so have just paid £91.43 was'nt due until 5th jan but thought i would pay it and get it out of the way.
Need to go shopping tomorrow and buy a few bits such as toothpaste and need more xmas wrapping paper also need to buy a birthday present for my daughters friend but i have a £10 Argos voucher that i will use.
Really trying so hard at the moment not to spend but feel like giving in and going on a mad spending spree especially as there is so many offers in the shops at the moment, must stay strong.

    Morning miemie!!!

It sounds like you are doing sooo well (especially at resisting the 'bargains' in the shops!')

I spent all of yesterday crimbo shopping - I could have quite easily said s*d the presents and just gone a massive spending spree.... but limited myself to a treat for lunch instead (very boring, but sooo glad I didn't give in!)

Hope the rest of the week goes well and well done on paying your card early!!!

Miemie: can you cut up the cards you are spending on, and/ or write to the companies concerned and ask them to reduce your credit levels in stages?

Hi Firefox, thanks for posting, i have reduced M&S card limit to £1200 and cut up card. Up until 6 months ago i had a Tesco card Limit£7000, Virgin limit £7500,Egg limit £1000, a have closed these accounts, I have Barclaycard Limit £5500 this is locked away in a drawer that my hubby has the key for, we have kept it as a major emergency card, Capital one has a limit of £3700
so i think i may contact them a get them to reduce to £3000.Crazy that i had so much credit available to me.

Hi Nat hope your well, so jealous that you have been crimbo shopping and there are so many sales on, but i'm being a good girl.

Spent £9.98 on bread, fruit and sandwich bits yesterday.

Bought birthday present for DD friend, but used an Argos voucher that i had from doing surveys.

Also have had a payment of £5.02 from ciao

So Bank Account stands at £387.91:D

  • Hiya,

Just wondering how old your kids are?

It seems maybe you spend a lot of money as you say 'keeping them entertained'. I was in a similar position, going to lots of activities and classes because I felt they 'needed' that. When I added up how much it was costing I couldn't believe the amount..!! I've since had to cut down to only the cheapest/free activities and be inventive on things to do at home.

It might be easier for me because mine are both pre-school age. If yours are older I guess they 'expect' what they're used to and I imagine it's harder to cut down?

    Hi Ickle Pickle

Both my children are Primary school aged,My daughter goes to craft club afterschool 1 evening a week this is free, 1 dancing lesson a week which she adores and i would never stop unless she wanted to as it has given her so much confidence and she has built up lovely group of friends, my son has football on a satuday morning which he loves and both children have swimming one evening a week which i feel is extremely important that they learn to be good swimmers epecially as we live in the countryside and are surrounded by rivers and ponds. I don't feel they have an excesive amount of structured activities and we do lots of free things suh as walking the dog in local woodland, both go fishing with their dad and we do lots of baking, painting, crafts and generally making a mess at home. During the school holidays i do like to be able to take them to the Zoo or other such places, but this is'nt an everyday event. Also as we live in the countryside there is no public transport so we have to go in the car so always have to factor petrol into it.

Have put £10 credit on mobile phone so account is £377.91

Well back from dentist, not too bad, need some work doing it's going to cost £45 so could be worse, and spent £12 on bread, sandwich meat, fruit and veg for the week.

Spending is mainly on my children, taking them on days out, pizza hut etc, i know it stems from childhood, i want my kids to have what i did'nt and i know i spoil them and it needs to stop

Hi Miemie - Have you joined https://www.seefilmfirst.com?
You get FREE cinema tickets to see new films before they are even released so you can spoil the kids without spending!
I got 3 free tix to take the kids to see the new Despereux film on Thursday!

Look on the freebies - no spend required thread (on this site) for the codes every day!

You can spoil your children a lot more by spending time with them rather than money.
Check out your local library for free events that you could take kids to

Go to the park and collect leaves, acorns, seeds etc to bring back and make pictures.

    Take a picnic out somewhere.
