Yoshua, its likely on a local authority estate, its one room and the GUIDE PRICE is £20k - it could go for 2 or three times that or more if someone wants it. (Wasnt someone shouting about that Welsh flat that had a guide price of £15k a few weeks ago and it ended up what £50K?) Especially when studios in same building have been offered for rent at £550 per month? It is also apparently a "sheltered housing scheme"?

The guide price is clearly a wind-up, to get people interested. It succeeded, didn't it? Either that, or the flat has had a major fire. In reasonable condition, it's clearly worth more than £20k, and it will fetch much more at auction.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Sorry about calling the place you used to live a shthole, I just made an assumption based on the 20K price tag.

Anyway with your figures, we are looking at over 80% Japan style price drops in South London.
This one example shows how over priced most houses still are today.

  • A bird told me that wilsons auctions regularly has the cheapest flats in the uk , this month theres probably going to be the cheapest 3 bedroom flat in the uk sold at "highest bid".

Did Crapper invent the ballcock cystern?

Bazalgette is The Man when it comes to poo. He has a small statue/plaque on the Embankment. He should have a 1000ft tower in front of Buckingham Palace.

  • Who do we pity most? Those living in houses costing about £30K or those in city centre flats costing £150K? Or maybe those living in one of the many slum areas of London with houses costing a lot more than they are worth?

A lot of people probably :) We'll know Wednesday.

Dont know George - someone living in a house for £30k in a idyllic Welsh setting may be not be that pitiful. A £30k place in east london would be a crack den I should think - but then it would probably be 5 times that anyway, so not a good comaparison.

You can park free on a Sunday in London.

Depends where - yuo have to be very careful.

In parts of Camden borough, in Holborn round my Chambers, you can park on single yellows for free except for controlled hours, which are Mon to Fri 8.30 am to 6.30pm, and Sat 9.30 am to 1.30 pm.

But in parts of Covent Garden and the West End, parking is controlled 24/7

Have you read "The Great Stink of London"?

NB. The stink caused by sanitation breakdown caused a significant fall in HOUSE PRICES close to the Thames.
