  • i know that we waste money from the weekly money and it would go to much better use going on the rent account (sounds so obvious now  )

Bumble - join the club!! I was wasting so much money and I can't even say on what! (well food shopping I let go off was one!) but the remainder I can't say on what!!!

Since I write everything down - and I mean everything I've found I'm not spending anything on rubbish - as I feel I have to answer to myself! I'm getting there slowly - but I'm determined to stick to it!!

P.S Lol at potty only for CBeebies :D

  • ive been keeping a majorly tight rein on what money we have had over the last few days, all we have bought/spent, are things we needed.

im determined to get the food budget down, and im starting to write a list already, and plan the meals for the month, with a lot of help from the old style board (of course) and what we save on the shopping will go towards the rent arrears.

A lot of my spending habits were as a result of my dad dying suddenly 11 years ago. I went to counselling and it did help. However, if you don't bond with the counsellor, you are ok to say that and they will find another counsellor for you. I was lucky that I did "bond" with my counsellor, unfortunately she moved to another area (and I cried when she went!) and I had another counsellor who I didn't like but by that time I found I was ok so only did a couple of sessions with the new counsellor. As LittleEmms says, don't give up. It takes time to find a counsellor to bond with...bit like friends really.

    Good luck.

  • I just wanted to say i am really sorry that you have lost your mum and the counselling didn't help.
I am fairly new to posting, i am still finding my feet aswell x
  • Definitely right Bumble - the meal planning has helped me SO much - and I'm making batches of stew, chilli, etc a bit bulkier than normal and having freezer 'ready made' meals!! My first shop didn't go as well, I was replacing very empty cupboards and hadn't meal planned. The one on sunday was more on target!

I had to stay focussed though and not get distracted by the BOGOF's, or shiny 'buy me' deals. I found stepping down a brand on quite a few items helped me too, whilst still being a little particular on some... :o Got within budget though... (baby steps as they say! ... ;) )

    xx

  • well ive got a huuuuuge pot of soup on, kind of 'if-its' soup, all the veg in the fridge which was beginning to be a bit questionable LOL a load of lentils and a few Mr T value stock cubes. i will liquidise it and freeze most of it, and it should do lunches for all 3 of us for at least 4 days!!!!!! (told you it was a big pot)
  • I like the idea of 'questionable' veg! ;)... he he !!!

Sounds good Bumble and the fact you're using stuff up! That always makes me feel good that I'm not wasting anymore... I hate throwing food away!!

(that is a BIG pot!! :D)

Have you got a slow cooker? That's a real godsend too... great for stews, soups, lots of things (i've not yet tried but am now tempted too). I got one for xmas last year - if you haven't got one, is there anyone who may be able to buy you one as an xmas present?

    xx

and im going to see if i can get a bread maker from dad for xmas, i love making bread :D
  • Morning Bumblebee, hope you are having an ok day today

Definitely recommend slow cooker if you’re into soups, stews and the like, great investment and lots of freezer meals. Mine is just for me and I have a 3.5 litre one, which tonight will feed two (me and hungry hungry boyfriend – not hungry hungry hippo as he recently called himself! :rotfl: ) and I would think at least two more freezer meals.

Not sure for the 3 of you, but I think a 3.5 litre one would be enough – you’ll have to ask the 'Yoda-wise' slow cookers on the thread… see below … (I’ve subscribed to it!)
