Hi, I have a daughter who has lissencephaly, this is life limiting, part of this condition is that she can get life threatening attacks of Pneumonia, we nearly lost her last year through Pneumonia, I don't get any extra for my daughter except the odd cold weather payment which I haven't received for about 2-3 years, I think people with children or adults with conditions like my daughters should get a payment like the oap's do, my daughter is at risk just like many other people who are in danger of Pneumonia and are under 60. I have to put in £30 a week electric and pay £17 a week gas out of my benefits, which will be rising soon, apart from the dla etc I get no other help, my local MP is helping us try and get some money off what we owe the gas board but I don't hold hope. The rules need to change to think about people in the danger zone and not just the oap's, I'm not saying they don't desearve it but so do other people like my daughter.0

We live in south Bolton Lancs. and have had three lots of £25.00 this winter!
They obviously want to keep us here.:rolleyes:0 -
Is this still called ''cold weather payment'' or does it have another name? I can't seem to find any info on it. thanks.
The £60 was just an extra payment -a one off from the government.
Cold weather payments are the £25 people on certain benefits -think IS -but not DLA -and some others that l cant rember sorry. This is paid out if you live in an area where the average temperature for 7 days is below 0%. hope this helps-check the details though!

I am disabled and my husband works whilst he's working i'm scared to put any heating on during the day so i shiver under a blanket to keep warm, why?
Because we cannot afford the huge heating bills that would be generated from me having heat during the day,its a choice of day heating or night and we chose night as its far colder during the evening plus we are sat down less movement equals more chill factor.
You'd think the powers that be could be a little more understanding as they sit snug in their big warm homes whilst we shiver as snow lays around us.Doe's someone have to die before action is taken.0 -

The elderly do die more over the winter. I doubt there is a data for those that are under pensionable age but are in fact disabled. I really think they should pay it to those that would really suffer because of the cold.0 -

Are you on any other benefits as this thread says that DLA alone does not entitle you to the £25 payments?0 -
