I cannot afford the payments to the electricy company sometimes and have to get less food in yet pentioners who are well off can have a well heated home and live in reletive comfort.
There is something seriously wrong with this system , pentioners , disabled people and carrers with children or adults on very low incomes should be given the winter fuel payments full stop. I really hope we get some moeny for the gas and electricity bills this month im fed up of being in a permanant state of coldness. Who has received theirs?0 -
foxy I was on IS for a few years before DS was accepted for DLA. It was only when he got DLA did we get a cold weather payment. I phoned up to see what this was and Jobcentre said it was because child was on DLA. Only people on IS or JS with chidren under 5 are actually entitled to a cold weather payment or people with children claiming DLA.
its very confusing for people and I am still unsure of how it works never mind for anyone else.
WHY oh why is everything so difficult to claim for?0 -
Child Tax Credit that includes an individual element for a child or qualifying young person who is disabled or severely disabled
I qualify for the reason above but I`ve never had it. I do work so maybe don`t get it because I claim working tax credit. Either that or the temperature in the East Midlands hasn`t been low enough.0 -
I wasn't even aware of this benefit untill my neighbour spoke of it, and said did I receive my £25 and I said no. She has a child under 5 but I don't but my daughter is on the highest rate of DLA and the severe disability of CTC and I am a carer to her and get IS. So, surely I should of recieved this? And considering my next door neighbour lives, well next door, we have been in the same part of the country with the same weather. This was for the weather a few weeks ago, not this week. Should I call the powers that be and ask them what the hell is going on?0

Hi,
I receive exactly the same benefits as you and finally received my £25 last thursday after a couple of weeks of chasing it up. They said that they had to do the disabled childrens cases late for some reason as they weren't automatically paid in the first run off.
Have you checked your bank account this week? If you haven't received it then definitely give them a call as they said that my son's DLA wasn't registered on their system, he's only been on it for 5 years!!!!

its a laugh the cold weather payment. I was lucky enough to get £8.50 twice last year. it has been much colder for longer and earlier this year and yet nothing! the trouble is is if happens to warm up slightly (just over 0 degrees) for just half an hour then thats the whole week up the spout. it has to be 0 degrees or below for exactly 7 days without the slight warm up.
id be overjoyed if I got a letter saying it was now £25 and I would put the money straight onto gas card as son needs to be warm.
This is not true - it's the average temperature over a 7 day period. A -2 at night and a - 1 in the day makes the average temp as -1. The same as a +2 in day and a -2 (and we had it much colder than that) makes it 0. The only time the 7 day period would be restarted is if it was for example +3.5 in day and only -2 in night, therefore the average would be +1.5, this would start the whole process again.0 -

New to this site.
the thing i dont get is my sister in law get income support and my family get incapicity benefit we are both on the same amount of money so what is the difference really between the both of them. When i first applied they asked me which benefit to gone on i had the choice of income support or incapicity and i said either one i doesnt make a difference does it and she replied NO!!!
I now know there is a huge difference in bonuses cos if your on incapicity not only do you not get cold weather payments but you also not entitled to a budgeting loan either.I cannot make it out personaly because income support and long term incapicity are the same benefit so i heard so where is the difference if we get the same money then why are we not entitled to the extra bonuses to,Just because me and my family are on incapicitybenefit does that mean we dont feel the cold as much as others on income support or dont need help with large purchases i'e washing machine, dryer, settees. It needs to be looked at because where i'm standing and probably thousand of others it does not seem fair.
Firsty welcome Kiz to MSE. Yes I agree with you it's very unfair and the system needs to be seriously looked at and over hauled so everyone who is entitled gets the same amount.0
