will we get letters saying that we've qualified for a cold weather payment with a giro, or will it go into the bank without any letter?
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!
  • Is this a country wide payment or only triggered in certain areas. We could do with it as its freezing here but heard nothing.

I think there's a bit of confusion here. Everyone who's entitled to the xmas bonus will get £60 sometime between Jan and March.

If the weather's below freezing for a week then there's the cold weather payment, which used to be about £8, I don't know what it is now though. That's regional, not national.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

  • Cold weather payments are nothing to do wih DLA, they are for people on a means tested beneft and are either a pentioner or disabled or have a disabled child and are payed automatically, the same way your benefit is paid. Think the weather has to be below freezing for a solid week, I have only ever had one payment in the last 5 years.

peediedj if you get a disabled element of child tax credit you will get this payment.

    Who is eligible?

You may be eligible for a Cold Weather Payment for each week of very cold weather in your area if you get Pension Credit.
You may also be eligible for a Cold Weather Payment for each qualifying week if you are getting Income Support or income-based Jobseeker's Allowance and have a child under five or get one of the following:
    • a pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium
    • a disability premium or severe disability premium
    • a disabled child premium
    • Child Tax Credit that includes an individual element for a child or qualifying young person who is disabled or severely disabled

This year you will get £25 when the average temperature where you live is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days during the period from 1 November to 31 March. Specified Meteorological Office weather stations are used to obtain this information.

Does each eligible adult in a household get a separate payment or is it per eligible household?

Further to this,i now understand that if two people live in the same house but are not actually married, and they both qualify as individuals, then they both receive equal payment. Can anyone confirm?
  • its a laugh the cold weather payment. I was lucky enough to get £8.50 twice last year. it has been much colder for longer and earlier this year and yet nothing! the trouble is is if happens to warm up slightly (just over 0 degrees) for just half an hour then thats the whole week up the spout. it has to be 0 degrees or below for exactly 7 days without the slight warm up.
id be overjoyed if I got a letter saying it was now £25 and I would put the money straight onto gas card as son needs to be warm.
