Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 5th December. It is is an ‘over the garden fence’ type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome; please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.
Morning. Looks cold and wet out there. Weekend and no doubt most of us will be going shopping today. I know I have to get some things or else it will all be last minute.
First I have to walk through the mud that was the lawn and clean out the hen house. The office is also a tip, as it a lot of things in the house.
Woolworth massive 50% off sale was a real disapointment. The only think I could find with 50% off was birthday cards. I suppose the 10-20% off this and that might have been a help, but the queues were miles long so could not be bothered to wait.
Got me specs yesterday and it's amazing how clear the world is now. I just thought it was supposed to be fuzzy. Driving, I can see the stones in the tarmac and not a grey mass of road.
BEST TIPPLE of the day is Tesco finest sherry, now only £2.99 a bottle and 20% alcohol so very good quality.
I bought 4 as it was so much cheaper than Harveys.
2 litres of milk in Tesco 50p. Anchor butter (if you can find any in stock) 50p and several other decent bargains....
Well, coffee time. American pancakes and bacon for breakfast. Not healthy, but will set me up for the day. Got a sore throat and man-flu coming, so need to stay fat.
Cheers

Christmas time, mistletoe and wine

With logs on the fire and gifts on the tree
A time to rejoice in the good that we see
In my calendar today - an angel :santa2:
Westonbirt was great - trees, lights, mince pies, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, a choir singing carols and we saw Father Christmas:xmassmile
Master tru has been working 7 days a week for the past few weeks (5 days in his job, 2 days of his own work), he's grabbing extra work whenever it's offered just in case. A few people have been made redundant at work. I know for a fact that his job is 100% safe, but I haven't told him - I think it's good for him NOT to know, it's made him think ahead and plan a bit. So I'll be packing a big lunch for him in a mo, he's working in an empty unheated house and he's tired and I feel the teeniest bit sorry for him
Not much to do today, most of it got done yesterday so I'll do a couple of loads of washing then just potter about while listening to Christmas CDs :xmastree:Bulletproof0 -
Morning all.
Taplady - (((hugs))) to Lesley
(((hugs))) to Smoky, PenPin - if you are reading - and all who need them
Halight - your twins sound lively!
N9eav - I'm glad for all the other drivers in Cornwall that things are less fuzzy on the road now!
Ravelesley - thanks; the LO is still holding her own so we are breathing a little easier now. I'm sure all the wonderful good wishes, thoughts and prayers from the lovely people on this thread have helped.
Well, I've been up for an hour or so, having had a bit of a restless night - Christmas is churning over in my head and I can't believe what little time there is left now! I have to get the wrapping up finished because I have parcels to post, one of them to France; if I don't get a move-on, I'll miss the last posting dates!
It's my DS2's 27th birthday today - I can't believe it, really. One minute he was a little boy - now he's married with a home of his own! Where does the time go?
We're having stew tonight - I shall make double as usual (in the Remoska) and we can have the rest on Monday. I made Aussie's Impossible Pie for pudding last night (also in the Remoska!) with added drinking chocolate powder, and it was yummy, hot with icecream, and very filling! We'll finish it off tonight.
I'm baking today because we have no cakes left so I need to look through my recipes. I'll probably do flapjacks and some fairy cakes.
I must tell you about my DGS's (8YO) project last week. Sadly, only the parents were invited but the idea was brilliant. They all had to choose a character from history (my DGS chose Julius Caeser because he loves that era). They had to dress the part and write and rehearse their own five minute script about the character. Then they all stood dotted about in the hall (90 of them!), and every time any of the guests stood next to them, they had to recite their script. They called it a Living Museum and my DS1 and DIL said it was the best thing they have ever seen at a school. The children did a fantastic job and really enjoyed it, once they all got over the nerves. Even the shy ones did well. I think it's a wonderful idea and hope they carry it on (and invite the grandparents, too!)
Well, having not been on here much lately, I seem to have 'mioliered' a bit! I really should go and have my shower.
Will catch up later. Hope you all have a lovely day.
Oh - welcome to newbies!

Morning all,
I'm sat in front of a basket full of fircones and a reel of garden wire, I'm wiring 3 or 5 together to go along the beams with holly and ivy which I will collect next week. Hope to finish the base of the swags today and more wrapping pressies. Think the quilt will be on the back burner for now.
Plan to vacume through and swish kitchen and bathroom floors, shop for veg at the local market, hopefully finish writing cards.
Well that's it for now.
HALIGHT, bet you're pleased to have the twins home, you sounded lost without them
MIOLIERE, Hope you have some good news, thinking of you and your family.

Morning all,
N9eav, thanks for the tips on the bargains - not that I shall be going near any shops during the day as it's tooo manic!!!
Tru, it does sound lovely where you went, do you feel all festive now?? I also now have Cliff Richard stuck in my head....
Kathy, DGS's living museum sounds like a fantastic idea - how very creative!!! And I expect both children & parents enjoyed it. Happy Birthday to your DS2 as well.
Betheebee, your house will probably smell fantastic once you've finished creating the swags. I am envious of your talent!!! (and beams....).
Another one who will be pottering at home today, might sit & watch Saturday Kitchen this morning, then put on the Xmas cd's later to motivate me with the housework! I will also do some baking as the cupboards are a bit bare...
And work out what presents I still need to buy (not many), plus wrap some of the stuff I've already got.
Oh, and I am now all kitted out to make Snowman Soup!! I am going to do a few for my group of friends from Uni for next Friday as we're not all together again before Xmas. Then I will start on some for my team at placement & my DD's want to make some for their friends too. There'll be a production line going!
(((((((hugs))))))) for all those needing them, hope the many who are MIA are alright - thinking of you too.Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
Morning everyone
Well I'm going to brave the shops this morning with my best friend and try and get a bit of shopping done...I hate shoppingbut I've a few things left to buy for Christmas.... I'm dreadful...never organised!
I've also got a lot of Flylady things to do...mainly cleaning windows and ironing...another of my two favourite jobs...NOT!
Hope you all have a good weekend...hugs to all that need them

Morning all!
Looks cold and sunny here. Got dog shut indoors after yesterday's fiasco, now him and the cats are staring hopefully at the sc which is full of brisket that I cooked overnight in red wine and stock for tonight's dinner, it does smell lovely and I don't even eat meat lol!
Kathy - lovely to have you moliere-ing away again, I've missed it a lot! Glad lo is still holding her own, will keep praying for her. I love the living history idea, will mention it as dd3's school meeting, sounds lots of fun. Oh and happy birthday to your ds x
N9eav - thanks for the sherry tip, need some for Christmas trifles! Apparently sherry is good chilled and served with olives, will try that I think as have a tub of olives marinating in the fridge at the mo! Will go nicely with Sat night telly and a roaring fire!
Tru - Westonbirt sounds lovely, might see about visiting it next weekend, glad you enjoyed it! Did Santa promise anything lovely and ask if you'd been good!
Well my house looks like chaos! ds and his mates were here for curry, and the girls and their pals were here for pizza last night. The amount of food eaten was scary! Oh that reminds me, amongst all the alcohol offers the soft drinks tend to get forgotten, but J2O's were 3 x 4packs for £7.50 in Asda, not the most astounding bargain, but pretty good, and the girls loved them. Waiting for my really cheap J2O's from AF at the mo, now they were a real bargain!
Anyway I'm off out to meet a mate for breakfast in a bit, so I best get a wiggle on and sort out the mess! Have a good day all and hugs where needed xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Morning all!

Hope you all have a great weekend
