up to 50% OFF all Sat Navs.......Halfords

Advertisements like this are hardly designed to boost consumer confidence?
Have a look at any discount offer, 99.9% will say in small print upto ;)
Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional

  • Yep my woolies was the same i thought 50% off when i saw the window signs from across the road but as i did get closer in fairness i could see quite clearly upto 50%.

Also every shelf has a big sel with the discount with original prices and the price after discount so i didnt find it misleading. Dissapointing definately as there wasnt a lot left to be honest.

I just saw the halfords one on TV and it definetely said 50% off ALL sat navs. Went on the website and only a handful are actually halfprice!
I haven't seen the ad myself so can't comment, but if it is misleading and doesn't contain small print it should be reported to the Advertising Standards Authority. You may have seen that they recently stopped DFS advertising sofas in adverts that appeared bigger than they actually were - hopefully they will do the same for discounts that appear bigger than they actually are. At least they have some teeth to stop it being shown again.

    Here's their website:

Before you buy a satnav from Halfords, you might want to check what their policy is if its faulty,in theory they should refund but in practice they send it back to the retailer-i wouldn't shop with them again because of the hassle I had.

And like the op you missed the up to part of that - did you both go to the same school?

You clearly haven't learnt too many manners but I guess some things you just can't teach.

Have to say that the advertising does seem pretty misleading to me. As old Lord Denning said, you can't have a trade description in big bold letters and small print changing the terms of an offer.

He called it the Big Red Hand rule.

How many people have complained about their ISPs not delivering the speed they "think" they have been promised? Most ISP adverts say speeds of "Up To x"

The advert is for Woolies is what many companies do - a very common practice and people really should be aware of it by now. But people only read and see what they want to see.

I don'y know why people fail to see the quite clearly printed bit that says "upto" as it did on the halfords adverts and as it did in woolworths

Maybe its just what your mind wants you to see??
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right

But luckily, unlike yourself and the op, due to the fact I do have at least a modicum of intelligence I can learn how to read and interpret offers from shops.
