You took the words right out of my mouth F.C :D I really didn`t think that would be a reason to not rehome  Like you say, rescue`s are overflowing and lots of cats in rescue have been "indoor" cats all of their lives ;)

I'm not telling fibs. You are more then welcome to contact the RSPCA and CPL to rehome a kitten to me. Let me know what they say please because they said no to me
• I am not suggesting you are fibbing - just saying it can be a possibility as I would hate people to think your experience is the norm, and that if they have to have an indoor cat that they have to support breeding and wont even try the rescue route.

Several people have been able to get cats (which are intended to be house cats) from rescue with little difficulty

Well because I was turned down I went for a Bengal and another one and i'm glad I did because they are so much different from a moggie. I doubt I'd ever go back to having a normal moggie now anyway even if I were allowed.
As for supporting breeding i'm all for keeping a breed alive if done properly and they were resgistered to breed. What i'm against is BYB who just let their dog or cat have kittens/pups for the sake of it and don't consider the implications of genetic illnesses or if they can cope with things that can go wrong during the births..
• most wet food is full of rubbish including sugar. The best wet food is live catch, followed by raw. The prepared stuff sold is full of `stuff', do the wet food supporters all cook for their cats or does no-one read the ingredients... meat derivatives of 4% et al:eek:

I wasn't originally trying to cause offence/be controversial/give sound feeding advice.....my post was an attempt at helpful suggestions to help the OP. I was merely passing on comments made by my vet and my mother (who has 25+ years of breeding pedigree cats and keeping them as pets). I didn't claim to be an expert in any way - and yes thanks! I am more than capable of reading ingredients!

That said, I feed my cats the following:

Female:

Iams - a bowl left out daily. Originally this was all she would eat as she was a rescue cat and this was what she'd been fed by the CPL. We tried to get her off these, but she quite literally starved herself for 4 days in a row, so we went back to feeding her them. Eventually, through trial and error, we discovered that she'll eat tinned sardines, tuna, salmon or cooked chicken/turkey. She has one of these every day at 'dinner' time and still has Iams left out for her to graze on.

Male:

Whiskas or Felix - 1 pouch in the morning
Cooked chicken or tinned fish (as above) in the evening

Since we started feeding our male cat an alternative to wet cat food in the evening he's stopped catching as many birds, mice etc as he did....makes for less cleaning of our back doorstep! It also protects the wildlife!

I'm sure that as animal lovers we're all trying to do the best for our furry friends and no-one would intentionally feed their cat something deemed as 'harmful', would we?

I got my cat through the CPL and specifically requested an older cat to be indoor only as I lived on a busy road. I also mentioned I was a sucker for a hard luck story and the woman suggested two possible moggies - one a longhaired white, blue-eyed cat who was deaf, and a feline tripod who they didn't want out and about because she'd have trouble climbing out of the way of a dog or something.

I was adopted by the tripod who's lived happily as an indoor cat for the last 5 years. I teach and kids are utterly fascinated by the logistics of how my cat has three legs, and was I personally responsible for the missing leg, did I chop it off with a saw, was there lots of blood etc etc!

CPL actually skipped the home check on me as I was so clear about where I lived and the kind of cat I was suited for - so while you may not be able to get a kitten if you want an indoor only cat, there are still other cats out there who they would probably rehome to an indoor home.
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!

I also had a three legged tripod cat. She had to have it amputated due to a cancerous growth on her joint. I have to say we let her out as she coped so well with it , could jump up and down quite easily and she was an old lady aswell. Although she only ever ventured as far the patio to have a basque in the sun. RIP little Coco

Sounds like a good diet - not everyone's is btw.
• I have a kitty as well who refuses to eat anything but her beloved dried food
She's on P@H own brand natural stuff to at least give her a fighting chance of having something decent in her system!

Tinned fish? No chance. Natures:menu 60% meat wet food? Nope. The only other things she will eat are cooked chicken (nope, won't entertain it raw) and sandwich ham! (No, I don't feed her ham, just I know she likes it :rotfl:)
Oh, apparently she likes raw liver, though.

She's at the vets as we speak having her girlie bits removed, so she's going to be highly unimpressed with me when she gets home, I'm in her bad books as it is for not feeding her this morning! At least I can finally get around to letting her out in the garden though :)
• Hello to everyone who was following my thread about 'rescuing' a kitten (Mike)

Here is an update on how our new kitten (Mike) and our cat (Phillip) are getting along...

Well, they love each other! Every morning when we let Mike out of his room (he stays in the spare room overnight because we need to supervise him and Phillip playing - Phillip doesn't know his own strength sometimes:rolleyes:) Phillip runs in and gives him a big clean.
They play together alllll the time, share a bowl of water, share each other's litter trays, share a scratching post!

I think we're very lucky that they get on so well :)

Anyway here are a couple of photos...(sorry if they're a bit big - I did shrink them down on Photobucket but it doesn't seem to have worked!)
