New kitten....questions & advice (merged)

I think getting a kitten not a cat would be a great idea!! Hopefully she wont see it as a threat and it would be company for her.
I kept my cat indoors for the first year of his life but he soon started to howl at night and was under my feet all day which resulted in a few bad falls! Eventually we had to let him out (at first on a long lead) but he completely changed! He doesnt go far but he seems alot happier and less clingy indoors! Therefore I think she may need a little friend to chase and groom etc ... BUT I wouldnt get one the same age, go for a kitten. Good Luck!
Also Feliway is a great idea when introducing a kitten, we used this many times and had 4 cats at one time.0 -
actually I think there maybe something in indoors/outdoors thing about clingyness. I have two cats & the oldest is a rescue cat - he hunts ocassionally & is more aloof than the younger one. The elder cat is an ocassional outdoors cat - or he goes outside alot more when I'm @ work or asleep! The younger cat is an indoor cat - she noticed that getting back in was alot more challenging than getting out & decided she didn't fancy the idea. The younger (indoor) cat is quite clingy - whereas the older one does like my company but doesn't follow me about etc (like she does) - I had thought it was a difference in temperament but now I'm not so sure.
Good luck anyways0 -
Hello,
ok we rescued a kitten too, someone wanted to just get rid, so we took her in. Her names Nallah, she was 4 months old and we have loved her since she moved in Sept...But she's acting very strange at the mo.......we think she's on heat!!!!! Does anyone know what to do??
thanks
Angel
She's become very very very affectionate, no nibbles or bites (she does usually if you go towards her tummy)
She's making this weird noise all the time.......Kept me up all night!
She keeps attacking my O.h Playfully, but lunging at him...........
She's sliding along the floor....
Rolling on the floor.......scratching our doors and climbing them longways all through the night
And sticking up her little bum:o She's only 9 months, but I know they are ready from 5 months...
She's not been Neutured yet....as we couldn't afford it yet....but considering other options (maybe a litter) She did escape a few week ago, she was out all night, then came back after I trailed the streets for her....We love her and want the best for her.
Help or advice thanks0 -

Hiya, sorry I just replied in the other thread. My mistake I thought she was four months old, being as she's older & going by the above i'd say it's more than likely that she is, and if she's got out it's almost certain she's pregnant so she needs the Vet in that case asap. If she's not, all you can do is keep her in, make sure she can't get out so no leaving doors open etc she'll try her hardest, and spay her asap when the Vet says she can be0 -
She is indeed in heat but please do not breed from her. Take her to the vet as soon as she is herself again to book her in for a spay. If cost is an issue then i'm sure the CPL or RSPCA will help to ensure she doesn't come into heat again. It only lasts a few weeks from the beginning to the end of the cycle. Please never ever let her out until she is spayed. I keep on about this. Why on earth do people still do this?0

Thanks, so do you think she COULD BE PREGGA'S wow....from her actions!!!
Wow..ok, something we NEVER considered0 -

do you think she's pregnant too, like another poster?0 -
A few years back we got vouchers from the cats protection league to help with the costs of getting our cats neutered. They are still available if you are a full time student or on a means-tested benefit. Details are available here.
We felt guilty about using help from a charity. We were totally skint at the time, but we later made a donation to them to match the cost of the vouchers we'd had.
Edit to add: If it was a few weeks ago that she got out, then she probably isn't pregnant already, since she is displaying signs of being on heat now. The behaviour you describe is exactly how one of ours behaved when on heat - horrible shrieking noise, bum in the air etc.0 -

Thanks Tiggergirl I will have a look into that now. And do a bit more research on Kittens in heat...0
