I want to finish decorating my flat

    I want to travel

I want to be able to continue learning (evening classes etc) without worrying about the cost

I want to be able to do all this without hearing "I want's don't get" in my ear. If I work hard for it and plan well I WILL get.

I just want to break out of the vicious cycle I'm in of not having quite enough money, and then borrowing more, then not having quite enough, then borrowing more and on and on... I wish when I was 18 and got my first credit card (student limit £300, evil Barclay's suckered me in by giving me a 'free' mobile that could only be topped up with the credit card!!) someone had said 'NO! DON'T DO IT!!' hindsight is a wonderful thing...
  • I want to be able to be able to do nice things with my children.....

I also want to be able to do improvements to our house, so its nicer to live in and enjoy and also to help add value so one day we can buy a bigger house when the children are teenagers and they can have there own room (the girls are soon going to have to share as no3 is on the way!)

  • To be debt free before we start trying for a family.

We know there's 'never a right time to start a family', but we literally could not afford for one of us to be out of work due to our combined debts (hubby's are 3 times as much as mine).

It's looking like we should be debt-free come this time in 3 years, so that's something we're happily working (struggling?!) towards, but obviously we'd hope to bring that date forwards as much as possible and we're doing our very best.

Thanks to this site, I've learned so much and have saved in so many areas of life. I'm extremely money-minded and sensible and it's rubbed off on my husband, so I'm extremely grateful to Martin, MSE and the amazing people who offer their advice, support, suggestions and experience on this wonderful website.
Thrilled to be DEBT-FREE as of 26.03.10 :D
    Hubby DEBT-FREE as of 27.03.15 :D

    For me it:

    1. to be able to sleep through the night and not wake up after a few hours with debt on my mind.

    2. Save as much as possible for retirement so that hubby and I can travel and see as much of the world as we can (if good health continues, God willing!)

    3. Help my children with getting their first homes.

For me it is to pay off our debts before DS starts school and have enough savings to move to a bigger place and not have to stress about money all the time :O)
