DH just called and said that our mortage provider is passing on the full amount of the Bank of England base rate reduction. pleased about that. We'll try and over pay the amount that we were originally paying in the hope of reducing the total amount more quickly.

DH also said that the company he works for is postponing his pay review for 6 months : ( but his next assignment abroad will pay slightly more uplift than he thought. Just as well, as he'll spend more than they will be giving him for subsistence in a strange place.

  • Morning all! - eek it's the afternoon...

Not so cold here today but still too cold to plant up my outdoor bulbs. Managed to get all my indoor bulbs planted thanks to the OH running up and down stairs with the soil. Just hope they all grow now, it's a bit late to be planting them really but you cannot look a gift horse in the mouth!

PippaS - glad you are getting the money back, that must have been a huge worry
Lesley - glad the recipe went down well!
Taplady - still thinking of you and Lesley every day
VickyA - hope your OH survives his man flu... my OH often asks me to mention things he is doing on here too, it's like they can't bear not to be involved!! rotfl.gif

Mustangsal - I haven't bought any pressies yet and money is so tight.*hugs* But as Squiggly said, how about making sweeties or something, I know I am going to try and do that if I can.
Chrisca - I do hope you feel better for saturday
redruby - It's a long story, but basically my mother is the matriach of this family and she and I fell out in a big way two years ago and she stopped speaking to me and that meant that my sister also stopped talking to me as they are very close. I was allowed to carry on seeing my nephews once a month for about a year but a year ago my Mum ended that completely and bought my eldest nephew a new mobile phone and we were never given the number, so basically they are gone from my life and no matter what I try, I am not allowed back in.

So for christmas this year I have no idea what to buy them. I have no idea what kind of things my nephews are into now so will have to just give money, which I know will be appreciated. However, it doesn't make me feel as good as having a present for them would do, if that makes sense.

Ok, I better get OS... Dinner tonight will be savoury rice with garlic butter chicken breasts. The OH was asking what we were having and I had to think of my feet as I hadn't planned anything but I know we have chicken breasts to eat up in the freezer so it seemed like a good idea.

The lodgers rent is due again on Saturday, I wonder how long it will be before she pays... (was a week after she moved in, the first time!) And she won't pay me, she only pays my OH.. cos he is obviously the head of the household :rotfl: :rotfl:

Thank you all for the hugs and thoughts re Tristan, I do appreciate them all and pass them on.

Why not send HMV giftcards? Then they can buy music, downloads, games, DVDs and you know it's been spent on something "useful" rather than cash being spent on things like busfares or "stuff". I have to admit that I rarely give my DS's real money (their dad & other grandparents do that) as I like to give a gift, whether it be a book token for uni books or baking utensils for setting up a first kitchen. Even when giving joint big presents with my ex-OH he had to give me the cash & I would buy & wrap!

Well I would have been if DH hadn't done my shopping.

We have the day off today to do something nice for my mum's birthday. She is 84 today and the plan was to take her out for lunch or dinner depending on what she wanted. She woke up, saw the horrible weather and decided she wanted to stay in and have a nice meal cooked. Since DH is a chef I said would he pop out and pick up something to make a nice main course with so off he went. I made HM carror and orange soup for starter and started on a lemon and orange cheesecake. Back he came with 1kg fillet steak

The meal is for 3 of us and he buys a kilo of fillet. He is going to make a beef stroganoff to be served with fresh tagliatelle which is to die for when he makes it and in fact won him an award a few years back but OMG a kilo:eek:. I was scared to ask how much it cost so I just gritted my teeth and said that is a lovely piece of beef.

He then looked dismayed at the cheesecake and asked why wasn't I making any Twink's hobnobs and why don't I use those 2 lonely looking carrots to make a carrot cake

His argument was if we had taken her out to a really fancy resturant it would have cost more. Bah, the logic of a man who I haven't converted to OS yet:rotfl: I think I will need to steal a part of that beef and get it into the freezer pronto as no way is he using a kilo for 3 people.

the snow was shocking here this morning I couldnt get my car out so had to walk to work (only 2 miles but hilly and blooming cold) I was the first to arrive, one girl didnt bother coming, some were really late any way it soon turned to rain. I had someone sitting in with me to observe as he had taken up a new post and wanted some experience, I quite enjoy teaching but it slows me down and makes me run late,

Tru your post made me chuckle:rotfl: :rotfl:

MSD This is one of the things about Christmas that I hate cos we all feel the loss or estrangement from loved ones more acutely.Crikey that was deep and meaningful for me:rotfl:

Taplady- I'm so sorry to hear the news about Lesley but I will put her in my prayers and hope that she makes it through Christmas and if possible way beyond

Well been into town and its a living miracle that my ys has survived the ordeal because he threw a proper tantrum in two shops and if theres something I cant stand its tantrummy kids. You never know whether to give them a slap on the backside or just ignore them and the other shoppers always tut no matter what you do.So I went for the ignoring method and the little devil was escorted home and sent to bed to learn the error of his ways.He promptly fell fast asleep for over 2hrs so somehow I think that he was tired:rolleyes:

Could you perhaps suggest freezing all the beef and using a cheaper cut for the stroganoff of would that go down like a lead balloon? It sounds delicious but using steak for it...

Still, enjoy the meal, and I hope your mother has a very happy birthday!

Sadly it would be a lead balloon Obukit. He prides himself on his stroganoff and the look of disgust I would get would be toe curling:rotfl:I shall of course suggest that I slice it :p
