OS Daily thread 4th December

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 3nd December. It is is an ‘over the garden fence’ type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome; please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.
Morning all. Rotten cold has set in, woke up early cos I am all blocked up so have the privilege of starting today's thread.
Think I will ring in sick today, feel as though my head is full of cotton wool and all bunged up so will spend a day in the warm. There doesn't seem to be any frost this morning, there was when I went to bed last night, its still very dark out there though so it may be a trick of the street lights.
Not a lot planned today, will mooch around doing a bit of ironing I think and dose myself up and keep warm. Have a good day everyone

Morning.
Wet and windy this morning. A complete contrast from last night which was cold and dry and a perfect evening for late night shopping. It was impossible to shop, but the atmosphere was great. Lots of brass bands and music, lights and food. Best evening for a while I thought. That was in Truro.
Last day today and then 3 days off. So I shall look forward to cleaning out the hen house and helping my sis in law assemble her shed.
Well folks have a nice dayNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning Chrisca, N9eav & all to follow...
Wet & windy here too - and it was also cold, dry & crispy here last night!
((((((((huge hugs)))))))))) to those going through hard times at the moment;
Kathy, thinking of you & your family & hoping for positive news. And like you say, sometimes there are just no words - that's when a hug can say an awful lot.
Diva, everyone is allowed to be "non upbeat" sometimes hon....
Dazi, good to see you posting
MustangSal, I know it's easier said than done, but please don't get yourself so upset over presents. I'm sure your family/friends wouldn't want you to cause yourself difficulties trying to buy things you can't afford. How about something like Snowman Soup (on the special occasions thread) or some HM cake or sweeties (peppermint creams, or coconut ice??). For me if someone has done something like that it really shows they've put thought & time into creating it and that means so much more.
Edit to say, thanks for the tip re spilt milk & antibac spray - I never knew that!!!!!
Headless chicken day for me (again)!! Up to Crowborough this morning, then back down here for training this afternoon, then parent's eve at school, then my typing to do.... Not quite sure where lunch or dinner will fit into that picture... Actually, I've got some bread wraps, think I'll bung in some cheese & coleslaw, so that's lunch. One of the DD's will have to deal with dinner. Sausages perhaps.
((((hugs)))) also for all those feeling poorly (and Mr VickyA who wants us all to realise how ill he is....!!!! - that did make me smile).
Have the best day you can.

Morning all,
Seems like most of the country has snow today, apart from us in the south  , it is pretty much the same as n9eav here very wet and windy.
Off to work again today, very busy at the moment, so the days do go very quickly.
Its chip night tonight, will go and have a rummage in the freezer to see what we can have with them, but nice and easy.
Chrisca, I do hope you feel better for saturday, best you stay in the warm today xx
Kathy, hugs to the little one xx
Will swish and swipe today and do a wash.
Diva, I am sorry to hear you cant see your nephews, have you fallen out with your sister ? , and would she not let you see them ?, I fell out with my sis for a while, we are just now getting back to normal, but I never stopped her from seeing my dd, I hope you get it sorted soon xx
Take care and keep warm all xx0 -
Hi all.
Chrisca - hope you feel better soon.
Squiggly - thanks for that; there's been no change with the LO so I'm hoping that's a good sign.
Raining here today and not that cold - a reall contrast from yesterday.
I'm off to see the Healthy Living nurse at the doctor's to get the results of my cholesterol test this morning and then it's back to do some housework and more wrapping up for Christmas.
Dinner tonight will be chicken casserole but I need to make something for pudding; it will probably be Aussie's Impossible Pie.
I will try and catch up with the thread properly today. The last few days have been a bit chaotic.
Pippa - I hope you've had good news from the bank.
Well, I'd better go and get DH up - he's starting work a bit later this morning.
(((Hugs))) to all who have the rotten cold that's doing the rounds. I'm sure (well, hoping really) that the pneumonia jab I had is going to protect me this year. I was really ill over Christmas last year and don't ever want to repeat that!
Anyway, see you all later.

Morning all,
I'm turning into a greedy sleeper, 6 hours without waking up in pain, the op on my arm/hand has ben a success, that's both of them done now. I'm so glad I'm not an octopuss.
Will get to Halfords and return a tomtom as it's now been reduced by £40, I'll re-order online through Nectar link and get tripple points. OS wise whilst out DH and I will pick teasels and hunt for more berries on twines for xmas decs at the local forest.
Will be cooking DD2 and SiL2b some roast pots and veg to go with a chick cass I have dug out of the freezer, We'll drop that off and take their 2 labs for a walk. Plan pork and stilton banger & mash for our dinner, and make an apple cake this afternoon. I have loads of apples in the freezer so must use them to make room for xmas food.
Hope everyone is keeping warm and safe in this weather.

Morning Chums, a wet 'n' windy one this morning.I'm off to M&S in a short while as they have a 20% off sale today and I want to get a jumper for my son-in-law for Christmas.I may also get some inspiration for the other four presents left to buy.
My eldest DD's husband has been given his redundancy yesterday so he will be out of work by Christmas, lean times ahead I think. He is a surveyor with a large housing corporation and has only been there just over two years. He left his other place to go there as the money was better.Good job my DD has her job, and it seems fairly safe,She is a school buisness manager (what used to be called a Burser)at a special-needs school. They can just about manage on her wages, but the kids won't be getting half the stuff they usually get.Her children are 18 and 15 so they are at an age where they can understand a bit more. So many folk are falling out of work I wonder when it will all end. Its a dreadful time of the year for it to happen as well.Still he's young (well 42 ) so he does have time on his side.and he's very adaptable, and a grafter so he will do anything he can to get back into work.
Hope all is well with the rest of you.
Mioliere, I feel for the little girl who is so ill in hospital, and remembered her in my prayers last night, gives us all a bit of perspective doesn't it.
There does seem to be lots of bugs flying about at the moment Half of my DGS college seem to have got a really bad tummy bug.I had my 'flu jab and try to keep away from coughs and sneezes as my immunity is low from the cancer.
Still on a happier note three weeks today is Christmas, that may brighten us all a little bit.
Found some lamb chops in the freezer whilst rooting yesterday so thats what I have got for dinner tonight.Well time to go and get the porridge on as I want to get nice and warmed up before I hit M&S's Have a good day everybody and <<hugs to those not feeling so well>>
Cheers JackieO xx0 -

Morning all!
Mioliere - Hope you get good news re the LO (((hugs))) hope you get a good cholesterol result!
Chrisca - get well soon x
(((hugs))) to Tristan, PP , Smoky and anyone else who needs one x
JackieO - sorry about your SILs job x
Back to work later. Am taking a servie user christmas shopping with lunch out so should be a nice day. Not finishing till 10pm though so hope the weathers not too bad later.
Spoke to Lesleys partner last night. She has had another bad day the other day but was better yesterday, they have been told it is a matter of weeks and that there will now be no chemotherapy so the best they can do is have her home for what time she has got left. Nurses will come in 4 times a day and one at night too. I do hope she makes it through Christmas so she can spend time with her grandchildren, one of whom is having his first christmas.
This puts everything into perspective, makes our silly day to day worries seem so unimportant.
OS wise today I have just cooked some pasta for a pasta salad to take to work tomorrow. Later I am popping into Aldis for a few bits on the way to work.
Hope you all have a good day.
take care xDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Good morning everybody.
It's wet and windy up here on the north east coast and all the ice is melting.
I'm going to do some baking today for my granddaughter, apart from that I don't have anything else needs doing.
Chrisca, hope you feel better soon. There's nothing worse than that bunged up feeling, makes you feel realy miserable.
N9eav,I know what you mean about it being impossible to shop.I went shopping yesterday too and came home with very little. The queues were horrendous and there did'nt seem to be hardly any staff on the checkouts anywhere.I kept putting things back rather than stand for ages, that can't be good for business can it.
Jackie, so sorry to here about your son-in-law being made redundant.I hope he finds something soon.
To everyone, have a good day and let;s hope it brings good things for us all.
Take care xxx
Oh dear.Just looked up and it's snowing realy heavily.0 -
Hello folks,
Off to work soon, the only OS thing I'm doing today is putting the rubbish out!
I am considering joining the live on 4k a year thread next year. I want to start saving for a house and if I want to save 5k, I have to put away almost £100 a week  If I do a lot of overtime, I can probably get £50/week, but living on 4k means I only have £12 left over (that is pocket money, not including food, so its not that bad). It's such a big challenge though...
Anyway, I think I will have fish fingers, chips and mushy peas for tea tonight
Have a good one
Edit: Taplady, I did not read your post before posting - (((HUGS))) to you, and your friend and her family. My thoughts are with you all.We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0
