B&Q closed early

Options
I rang my local B&Q to check opening times on January 2nd - open until 9pm they said on the automated line. Great I thought, I'll be able to go up and get 15% off that garden shed I need - the offer ended on the 2nd Jan.
Arrived at the store after a 10 miles drive at 7.40pm to find it closed.

Anyone had experience of complaining to B&Q?
I feel they are due me something for this waste of time, as well as the fact that it has cost me petrol money and will now cost an extra 15% for the shed.

Was it a special xmas opening hours different from the standard opening hours?

Was 9pm displayed outside on the hours of opening chart (for normal openings i,e. not xmas new year times?)

I think you're right they should answer to you because you lost out. But Honestly I think they'll just apologise and not offer you anything by way of compensation.

When did you ring the automated line?

If the automated line was for that specific day - ie they had altered the times for christmas - then they may have had to shut for some unexplained reason.

Were shops allowed to be open this late on that day?

  • Wasnt that a bank holiday?
:D I understand ALOT more than I care to let on :D
  • The only days large stores are limited by law are Sundays and Christmas Day, Bank Holidays are down to the companies concerned although in my experience stores go quiet after 4pm as general public think they are closed after that.

B=que normally open until 8pm as a rule.

Good Luck with your complaint as their "customer service" is usually rubbish !

What branch was this? My dad works for B&Q and he thinks the opening times were 8-6.

I don't see how you have come to this conclusion because following that line of argument it would give every delivery company the right to charge additional for petrol etc.if they could not deliver .. something I don't think is in anybodies interest.

I think that they might offer you the discount as a gesture of goodwill - and that would be all that it was (a gesture of goodwill) - and that is assuming they had any in stock.

My dad reckons you have got a better hope of hell freezing over for any discount from B&Q. He said they have people saying this all the time and they never get anything.

:rotfl: :rotfl: I love your dad!!

Your dad saying that people say this sort of thing all the time is exactly the reason why customer loyalty no longer exists.

I work in retail too. People are forever complaining about stupid little things which is why no-one gets nothing anymore.

I gave a lady £10 off a pair of shoes yesterday. She'd been sold an odd pair the previous day so had to make an additional journey to change them. She was soooooo nice and found the whole thing hilarious and was out to get nothing. That is why I gave her a £10 reduction when I exchanged the odd shoes for the correct pair. She was well chuffed & even more chuffed when I told her why.

Someone who came in ranting and raving at me like a madperson is much more unlikely to get something.
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

Nearly every day after work he comes home with some story about someone treating/talking to him and the other staff like they were dirt on your shoe. My dad won't be spoken to like crap so usually tells the person to f*ck off to which they ask to speak to his manager and his manager usually says 'if you're gonna talk to my staff like that then you can pi*s off to homebase'. :rotfl:

    he loves his boss.
