    Tut, tut, silly oldgit.

Everyone with a smidgen of intelligence knows that it's impossible to prove a negative.

I think that you will find that it is a widely held mis-belief that "you can't prove a negative"

    You can;)

I did what everyone said and ignored the PCN. Received a letter saying not to ignore notice and the opportunity to pay a discounted amount of £40 had elapsed and the full amount of £80 is due for immediate payment. Plus if no payment received in next 14 days then a late payment charge of £15 will be added making total of £95 payable. The 14 days elapsed so presumably the next letter will follow at some stage. Just wondering if other PCN's add a late payment charge too?
  • Some even add a charge if you look rudely at the attendant, its all bluster and should be ignored. Nearly through their letters now.

Valid, that is council, PCNs cannot add a late payment charge.

You must be referring to a Private Parking Company PCN in which case it is irrelevant.

Just got off the phone with the BPA. I was reading thier code of practice and phoned to confirm that the contract lies with the driver (yes I know). The guy I spoke to confirmed that the code related soley to the driver and the Registered Keeper is simply a link to that person as thats all the info they can access. The Registered Keeper is targeted when they are unable to establish the drive totally on the basis of PROBABILITY!!!!Phonecall made ten minutes ago.
Wont stand up in court sweetheart lol. That also means that nearly all the terms and conditions on PPC's paperwork is against the BPA's Code of Practice, obviously the BPA never read them of they would have taken action years ago. I say that with my tongue in my cheek
  • my mum parked in a disabled bay in tescos and her badge must have fell of when she shut the door, it was still visable if they had looked through window, when she returned to the car she was issued a ticket from euro car parks for £50, should she ignore this ticket as i am not sure if they are a private company or not, she is quite old and very concerned, should she ignore it, pay it or appeal against any advice would be great. Thankyou
  • I was going to say ignore if its a private parking ticket but then I saw it was only Europarks so the advice is as always
    Ignore
    Ignore
    Ignore.
    Don't contact them
    Don't reply to anything
Don't ever admit who the driver is.
    Don't Worry.

General advice is ignore...and this is correct.....however.....

If your mum is the sort of person who worrys and panics over the least little thing, and then runs around getting everyone else worried and frustrated by telling them all 'I've had another letter and they say they are going to take me to court' and won't actually listen to you when you say to her 'Ignore them mum, they'll go away eventually after 6/8 letters'.....then it might be easier and less annoying for you to pay the 'ticket'/invoice/whatever.

Picture it....unless you open all your mum's mail, every month or so you get a call at work and it's your mum saying 'Oh, dear patchpoo, 'proper' solicitors have sent me a big official letter and they say they're going to take me to court and I could end up losing my house for this ticket, I'm so worried....what shall I do'.

You can then spend 30 minutes re-assuring her, only to have your brother/sister/mum's neighbour/dad ring you 2 hours later to say 'Your mum is in a right fluster, she's been crying and saying they are taking her house off her next week, what is going on?' Cue another 30 minutes of you trying to convince them you know what you're talking about.

To some extent that's what these firms rely on.........worried people paying up out of a misplaced fear of exaggerated consequences.

    I personally never pay them.

In addition to BFG's comments, she may also feel obliged to appeal because she has a disabled badge and is entitled to use it. Again, this is a bad choice. The companies usually ask for payment before responding to an "appeal", then say the appeal was unsuccessful and the fine stands.
