Don't bother. Communicating with them only encourages them. Just think of them as a hornet's nest. If you poke it with a stick they will come after you. If you ignore it they will leave you alone.

Damn. The MSE Newsletter literally arrived the day after I emailed them asking that this be dropped, so I didn't read this article until after the fact. I have already done some things that article suggests you don't do, like saying I wish to "appeal". I have just received a letter back saying basically that although they "appreciate what I stated in my correspondence, the regulations are put in place for all driver's to adhere to", so the charge remain the same. Pay up or else.

As a matter of interest I have just been back to the carpark to look at the signs. Whilst there are several signs up outlining the 'terms', I would say that the signs are somewhat confusing; very, very lengthy and are comprised of very small print. They are not the type of thing you would easily notice, especially with two small children in tow - as was proven by us not seeing them in the first place.

My ticket was from National Clamps, does anyone have any info on them and how they proceed after the ticket is issued?
  • Yes, I was suprised that Trethowans were involved in the parking racket.

Maybe it's time for a "Wall of shame", listing all the legal firms who have connections to this scamfest?

It's for sure Trethowans won't be getting any more business from anyone in my family - and I will check that any solicitor who wants my business in future has nothing to do with private parking firms. I would suggest that this becomes standard consumer practice.

  • If you write to them then they will know you are the driver and not simply the legal owner of the car.

Would you pursue a parking ticket for under a hundred quid from someone who may or may not have been driving the car but owned it

its hardly a water tight case

I am being pursued for a ticket and I have not communicated with them as per the information on this board. They have now threatened court but still nothing

I truly wish I had seen this article before writing my first email within the '14 day' limit. Unfortunatly for me, I have already done this.

Just ignore any subsequent correspondence from them.

The thing is we didn't even leave the complex. We spent all of our time visiting or shopping at the retail stores in the complex, then took the kids to see a film at the Odeon. My problem is that the Odeon ticket is the only receipt I now have for that day.

I have adapted the template "refuse to pay letter", but wondered if it would also be worth sending a copy to the land owners and retail store themselves?

    Hi

When you go down there, also note the SIZE of the letters.

I have been issued with a parking charge notice, and I know I will probably be repeating what everyone else has been saying so I apologise in advance, but its for £60, £30 if paid within 10 days, for parking in ASDA from Town and City Parking LTD.
I haven't done anything yet, but I want to know if I do ignore it and not enter into any communication with TCP LTD is there any chance, even if its extremely slim, that you can get a criminal conviction for not paying?

For a start it's not a criminal offence, even for not paying any money they demand from you. If they do pursue you it will be through the civil court. And secondly just ignore them they will go away eventually.

It's probably also worth repeating the difference between debt collectors and bailiffs. The former are just private citizens who have no more power than you or I to enter premises, demand money or effect your credit rating. The latter are officers of the court, but they only come into action in the very, very unlikely event you are taken to a civil court (where you must be served with court papers), you lose the case, and you refuse to pay the money demanded by the court.

  • Hi, my Mum who is 80 has just come over to my house to ask me to write her a cheque to pay a PCN she was issued on Friday in Netto car park. Reason for the charge is she was slightly over the white line of the parking bay!

When I've looked at the ticket I see that the wonderfully efficient parking attendant has recorded the number plate incorrectly - twice! In both cases he has written a 'Y' instead of 'V' - the rest of the number is correct.

Now i've just been looking at everyones posts on here and if it was me I would take your lovely advice and ignore, especially with this case as i would imagine that if they try to trace it through DVLA they are not going to get the correct owner/address.

However my mum being elderly etc is all in a panic and say's she can't do with the stress of not paying and risking a heftier sum or even court. Currently if she pays within 7 days she has to pay £40, 10 days £60 and it goes up. I've managed to buy an extra bit of thinking time by telling her i'll look after it and pay it on line - bless her she's in such a state she was going to drive to the sorting office and post it there becasue she wanted to be absolutely sure it would get there within 7 days.

What do I do folks? If i ignore it do you think my mum will ever hear from them - it say's on the notice that a photo MAY have been taken as evidence, in which case they may have the registration plate on the photo. The description of the car on the notice is correct its just the registration number he has wrong in both parts of the form.

Mum will probably be on the phone to me tomorrow morning checking I've remembered to pay it!
