Is everyone aware of the parking restriction at McDonalds (fast food) car parks? I've never noticed any signs about it but my son and his family when to a McDonalds near where they live in Kingstanding, Birmingham, and ate their meal in their parked car, in the car park.
They were there for 23 minutes - they know this because they have had a parking charge of £30 for exceeding the 20 minute car park limit. This applies whether you drive through, eat in the car park or eat inside.

The charge increases the longer you take to pay it!!!!!

He is challenging it, mostly because it is such a ridiculous stipulation.

Why "challenge" it. If he just ignores the demands then they will just go away. That way he will save time, hassle and the costs of postage or phone-calls. Just to repeat, these parking charges have no basis in law and you do not have to pay them.

Does anybody out there have any experience of the following?
Yesterday I received a letter from a debt collection agency called Roxburghe.

This is in relation to a 'ticket' issued in April from MET Parking Services in a shopping centre in Romford. We have ignored it as my wife, who was driving (and me) felt that £50 for an eight minute overstay was a tad excessive. The overstay was genuine as the Mrs got lost.

If we were genuinely in the wrong, we'd have paid.

Anyway they have now made threats of contact from a firm of solictors called Graham White, based in Surrey. These appear to be genuine as I've checked their flash & glossy websites.

Basically, can anybody recommend a course of action. These quite nasty letters are getting stressful to us.
    many thanks
Ignore them. Roxburghe and Graham White are well known scammers. You'll probably get 3-4 letters from Roxburghe, a couple from Graham White and then they'll give up.
:j Finally sorting out my finances once and for all.....bring on the Excel spreadsheets!!
  • In March I was issued with a PCN on a housing estate. I have never been issued with a ticket before as I consider myself to be an honest citizen...in fact I had to be shown the sign. I would never have parked there if I had seen the sign! I noticed when I got home that the wrong year had been put on the ticket 08 instead of 09. Now 5 months later I've recieved another invoice for the money and photo evidence with the right date on! Do you think I've got a good case for not paying?

Was this private land, or was it on the highway? The reason I ask is that this particular thread is about private parking tickets and not those issued by the police or council.

There's always a good case for not paying, continue to ignore, they'll give up eventually.

My partner had his car clamped and towed away within an hour of the clamp being placed in Leeds on a night time.

We was going out for a cheap meal and he parked on a private street between some apartments, yes there were signs up but he didnt think that this meant the spot he was in.

Anyway he came back to the car about 11:45 pm and the car wasnt there he rang the company who said the car had been towed away, they clamped it first and because he hadnt returned in an hour towed it away!

He wasnt allowed to know where the car was, they wouldnt tell him, he had to wait till the morning to ring the office and arrange payment.

He was told the fees would be £500, not to mention the taxis into town and back that night!!

He was also told that its £50 each day it is in the compound! They added a total of 2 days worth even though the car was only in compound for about 12 hours! From about 10pm at night to the same time next morning but they charged 2 days worth!

Totally discusting and a very expensive night, these people are criminals!

if that had been me I wouldnt have been able to afford the fees and my car would have been destroyed.

    These people need shutting down!!!

  • Hi,
About twenty months ago I parked outside a parking bay in a retail park. There weren,t any yellow lines. As my car was only a few days old, I wanted to park it so that it wouldn,t get damaged. I wasn,t obstructing any vehicles and there were about 100 spaces empty, but when I came back after 15 minutes there was a ticket on it.
I explained to the attendant, but he said I could appeal, BUT ONLY BY E-MAIL.
The obvious thing happened I appealed and they sent me an e-mail straight away to say they had lost my appeal. SOME APPEAL SYSTEM.
I paid under duress, but took photos and sent them so that they could see there weren,t any yellow lines, but they didn,t bother. However some weeks later a man I assume with a paint pot and yellow paint marked the very spot, abit coincidental since the car park has never had any since its installation.

As it is private land those markings (including yellow lines) don't mean anything at all. This also applies to "disabled" and "mother and child" bays.

I hope you have now read this thread, and have learnt the lesson that in future you just ignore any threats and they will eventually stop hounding you.

  • I was recently on a Asda car park with my mother who is registered disabled. I parked in a disabled bay and displayed my mothers disabled badge.

After about 30 minutes we returned and we were issued with is a parking ticket by an attendant who said that the disabled badge had expired. This was the case.

He did however see clearer as we were walking up to the car that my mother was disabled. I agree it was a oversight on our part that we did not apply for a renewal disabled badge.

Do I have to make payment as they are threatening potential court action if i do pay the fine of eighty pounds?
