I've received a parking charge notice today from this company, with details of my vehicle including photos asking for payment of £45 if paid within 14 days or £70 if paid within 28 days. I'm tempted just to ignore this and see what happens. Who else has had dealings with this company and what was the outcome. I live in Scotland and I have a feeling that they can't persue this as they are an English registered company. Is that correct?
    Thanks for your help

Just ignore. Whether the company are English, Scottish or Klingon, you don't owe them a penny. As for those photos, they have some pictures of a car and they can't identify the driver from them. Without that information they are stymied.

There is a nice article in today's Times about private parking. To quote it in full:-

    Ignore It Completely
The cowboys who supervise supermarket, hospital, housing estate and retail car parks are unregulated, so can charge exactly what they want, but they're unenforcible. Only tickets issued by authorised wardens and the police are legally valid. A ticket from a parking enforcement firm is not a fine but a notice of breach of contract; they have to no power to force you to pay unless they go to the hassle and expense of taking you to court and winning.

  • way back in Sep 2009 i was sent a PCN for a ticket placed on my car for being parked illegally outside my friends house. I know who was driving the car but from threads i have read here before I believe i am right in telling them that I have no legal obligation to disclose this, am i right?

Anyway, i replied once telling them this and after a few months the letters dried up. Now i am receiving letters from a debt recovery firm claiming court action & sending out appointment notices saying they will be visiting my house. I phoned them back and told them to stop sending me letters and that i was not liable for the ticket and to basically leave me alone but the lady at the other end said i will continue to get letters to i basically told her i'd see her in court then.

Should i be worried about this? does it effect my credit rating at all?

The important question to ask is was this a private parking ticket or one issued by the council?

Just keep ignoring them. If they want to waste their money sending out this toilet paper it's up to them. It's very unlikely they will visit your house, but if they do, don't forget they are just a debt recovery company with no special powers. If they do turn up tell them to "go away", or you will call the police. Could you tell us the name of the parking company and the debt collection company? We like to name and shame on here.

For your credit rating to be effected, the case would have to go to court (very unlikely), you lose (very, very unlikely) and then you refuse to pay whatever the judge orderer within 28 days. So you have nothing to worry about.

Private = ignore, ignore, ignore some more.

What you want isn't feasible....they will continue to write to you until they reach the end of their process; after that they will go away [until maybe in a few yrs time another debt agency will try to enforce it????]

Until then I suggest you either pay up or await the harmless letters with glee.

If you're that worried about bits of paper and really want to stop the letters then pay up....job done. [No-one with a set follows this advice].
