Subject : Parking ticket Excel Parking

My Girlfriend was given a parking ticket on 18/10/10 for parking in a disabled bay without displaying a badge. She thought it was a mother and child spot by mistake. It was on an out of town retail park in Huddersfield and there is no charge for parking there normally.
she was a bit miffed at the ticket but decided to pay as it was my mistake even though it looked like a mother and child bay.
When She got home she went on their website to pay them and She put In the ticket details and it gave Her different payment options £25 £30 £40 £50 £60 £100 £115 £125 as she knows that the payment in kirkless council for parking fines is £25 as Her mother works for Kirklees she Paid this and the website accepted this as payment and did not ask for any more money or say that the amount paid wasn’t enough so She thought she had paid the fine.
Then about 3 weeks later I ( steven Burgess)got a bill (as i am the registered owner of the vehicle)from excel saying that I had not paid enough and the bill had been £60 and because I hadn’t paid on time that the new bill was now another £75.
I rang them up and explained that I thought I had paid and it was a mistake but they were very aggressive and said it was my fault and that I should have read the ticket properly in the first place. When I looked at the ticket it did say £60 in very tiny writing which I found hard to see at my age (44 Years) so how someone with bad sight would see it is beyond me.
I was adamant that I was not paying the extra charges so I went on line and came across the money saving expert web site which said don’t pay fines to excel at any cost as it is not officially the law that private companys cant Enforce this.
Since then I have ignored a couple of letters and the latest one which came on 1st Feb 2011 was from Roxburghe debt collectors with a new total bill of £117 saying if I don’t pay then they will pass the matter on to their solicitors name of Graham White who will review the case for legal action.
Again I have been on money saving web site and still and it says don’t pay these bills but I am wondering if my case is different because
1) I have paid part of the bill so that is like ive admitted guilt on my part
2) it tells me the cost of the fine on the ticket and I paid the wrong amount (even though It was very difficult to see as it is in tiny Print)
I would appreciate any feed back on whether to pay now or what to do as I am not knowing what to do.

Ignore them they wont but if they did take you to court a Judge would think the £25 you paid them covered any loss they had incurred. Relax its all bluster! Roxbourghe and Graham White are one of the same!!

OMG why the heck did you pay anything, sburgess? Sorry but I am amazed you fell for it.

Do you also send money to Nigerian emailers telling you that you've won a lottery and need to send £60 to 'claim your prize'? And reply to mail scams too?

For God's sake ignore them and read up on such scams so you know next time.

Tell your girlfriend, her mother and any other friends and relatives who are actually credulous enough to think that you should pay anything to a private firm just because they issue an invoice that's copied from a parking ticket.

1st Post.

I have read most of the 100+ pages of posts on this topic and will not be paying the scammers at Flaskpark a penny.

Despite the "invoice" being issued a week ago I so far been unable to get on their appeals website, so I searched and read the many posts and realised that this is a money making scam.

I am now looking forward to the many letters I am no doubt going to get in the post demanding ever increasing amounts of money....

I just hope that my wife doesn't get too intimidated by the nature of these letters.

I need to remember that a Parking Charge Notice from a private company is a waste of paper. Debt Collectors are not balliffs and can be ignored and I only need worry if the court write to me. Which according to the advice is about as likely as Elvis knocking at the door tomorrow morning.

When I tried to appeal one of the replys I got said it was illegal for me to with hold the drivers name and address , think I might tell them the details belo

Have you not seen the whole parking forum here, with sticky threads showing you colour pictures of all the threatogram letters you can now look forward to, and useful links including a Watchdog programme exposing this generic scam?

Start at the top, read Crabman's stickies (but not the ParkRight one, it's irrelevant). Then read any other threads that take your fancy. If you search the forum for the words Flash Park (or FlashPark or Flashpark - the search can be picky!) you will also find at least one thread about them last year.

Ask them which law are you breaking for withholding driver details

Or don't say nothing at all to them monkeys
