Also research this & other forums (CAG & Pepippo) for added reassurance. There's shed-loads of info out there on CEL in particular as well as all the other PPC scam artists.

Don't let them take you for a mug.
btw, I don't think it's enough for anyone to say 'the info is out there if you look'. this is something that needs to be rammed in people's faces!

Presumably that one is aimed at me; thanks very much for that.

My apologies, perhaps I should have repeated all my posts thus far on the subject, including links to everyone elses on this & the other forums who have been & are being affected by these scammers.
You have read them all; haven't you?

    I really must try harder.

I'm not antagonistic (mostly) but I'd get a real buzz out of wasting these chancers' time/money.

So do we on here, and us regulars are intelligent law-abiding posters. Having had one ticket myself, from Euro Car Parks like you, I now come on here every day to tell people it really is safe to ignore these official-looking bogus tickets and the letters.

Luckily for me I had already seen this MSE forum a couple of years ago so I knew I was probably going to get a PPC ticket at some point, and would happily be ready to ignore it. My view was that the signs form an unfair contract due the amount of the 'charge' not reflecting any 'loss' - and I had spent over £100 in the retail outlet that employs the scammers anyway. I did laugh when I saw that lovely yellow packet flapping away on my windscreen last year!

Even today I just went into town and parked for 4 hours in a 2 hour private car park (did use the Supermarket but also shopped elsewhere, and the car park was NOT full by any means, so I wasn't stopping anyone parking there). I do this deliberately because I like PPC-baiting now - didn't have the joy of a bogus ticket this time though! :D

Take it from me, the letter-chain shown on the relevant thread is correct, I have the letters from Euro and Control Account here in my handbag right now even though it was a year ago. I use them to show all my friends too, so they can see the letters and threats and that NOTHING follows. No Court, no CCJ, no effect on your credit rating.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

    no offence intended.

bur for most of us who've been lucky enough to avoid this type of scam it comes as a nasty surprise; even more galling is that there's nothing illegal in it.

FWIW, I'm grateful to all who take time out to post here.

It's hardly an onerous task to read a sticky or two, or one of the several thousand threads about PPCs.

Quite; a couple of well known equestrian based sayings also spring to mind which include the words horse, lead, water, gift & mouth ;)

g'morning . I'm in a similar situation to reigunn and I've been studying the (sound) advice given here; I don't doubt its accuracy but - never having been hit with this type of 'charge' before - there's still a shred of nervousness in me.

    to summarise:

    supermarket car park

    max stay 3hrs

    my vehicle overstayed 24 mins

signage clearly states 3hrs max and a £70 overstay charge I (like reigunn I paid no attention ).

within 3 days a written demand for £70, with just 7 days to comply or a hike to £90.

feeling a sense of obligation ( I was negligent in not reading the signs) I was tempted to send them a token £10. but then I decided to call by here. I'm glad I did.

I won't be corresponding with these people. I'm ignoring them, even after I read that 'any outstanding amount will be forwarded to a debt recovery agency' - the slightly worrying bit.

excuse my naive outrage when I call these people (and the associated agencies) trickster scum. I feel sorry for any oap couple who use (slowly) the supermarket, dine (slowly) at the cheap restaurant, browse (slowly) at the shops and overstay by a few minutes. this generation tends to be law-abiding and scared by official - sounding demands.

I can see your thinking. But what is the contractual offer? Free parking, limited to 3 hours. If you breach this contract, they are entitled to losses. On a free car park, zero. The £70 sum is a contractual penalty. There is no offer to park beyond 3 hours.

So you need to times £0 by 24.
  • Hiya all,

I'm another victim of this parking charge millarky. I parked at a supermarket car park (an ALDI Liverpool) about 3 weeks ago. A week later received a parking charge from BPA for £70.00:eek:- £40.00 if I pay right away, for overstaying my welcome (even if we had just spent a few bob in there). I read on here some advice to ignore the letter. Today I've received another one with photographic evidence of me entering and leaving the car park. Getting a bit worried now, should I still ignore it ?. It has the BPA logo an the left top corner and the Parking eye logo on the top right. Nothing about council or police. It says if payment is not received they will pursue through the appropriate channels.

It's from Parking Eye. Ignore it.

Still ignore. Photo means nothing - it's just a way of tricking you into thinking that 'evidence' is all they need.

Doesn't matter how much 'evidence' they have when the sum demanded is unenforceable.
  • The appropriate channels are doing nothing after they have failed to scare you. You cannot be forced to pay an inenforeceable debt.
Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!
