Unless those with electronic access are prevented from selling the details on then any future regulation will be bypassed.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

g'morning . I'm in a similar situation to reigunn and I've been studying the (sound) advice given here; I don't doubt its accuracy but - never having been hit with this type of 'charge' before - there's still a shred of nervousness in me.
to summarise:
supermarket car park
max stay 3hrs
my vehicle overstayed 24 mins
signage clearly states 3hrs max and a £70 overstay charge I (like reigunn I paid no attention ).
within 3 days a written demand for £70, with just 7 days to comply or a hike to £90.
feeling a sense of obligation ( I was negligent in not reading the signs) I was tempted to send them a token £10. but then I decided to call by here. I'm glad I did.
I won't be corresponding with these people. I'm ignoring them, even after I read that 'any outstanding amount will be forwarded to a debt recovery agency' - the slightly worrying bit.
excuse my naive outrage when I call these people (and the associated agencies) trickster scum. I feel sorry for any oap couple who use (slowly) the supermarket, dine (slowly) at the cheap restaurant, browse (slowly) at the shops and overstay by a few minutes. this generation tends to be law-abiding and scared by official - sounding demands.0 -

No need to be even slightly worried, debt collectors are not bailiffs and have no powers.0 -

overlook my naivety on this but until last week I was a charging notice virgin and I'm still in a state of belief that this type of ticketing remains legal, if not enforceable.
just 10 mins research and I discovered that clamping is to be outlawed shortly. in the desperate scramble to shore up profits the co's are quickly turning to ticketing.
I guess I'll just have to tolerate the inevitable numerous calls from the debt collectors.0 -
Which bunch of scammers is it? You might find their letter chain in this thread.0

Just remember the flip side of the coin. Every time they get your details from the DVLA they have to pay. Everytime they send you some scary letter they have to pay.
Don't worry about it and let them rack up the bill for putting some scrap pieces of paper on peoples cars. Ultimately they are only scamming themselves.0 -

the pond-life in question is euro car parks and I've just scanned through the letters thread to prepare for what happens next.
roughly what I expected: all very big-man threats and legal-speak.
what outrages me the most isn't so much the £70 charge (extortionate enough as it is), more they way these people conduct their 'business'. and I'm in disbelief at the 30% ' pay up and be done' rate - it seems some people are even greener than me.
btw, I don't think it's enough for anyone to say 'the info is out there if you look'. this is something that needs to be rammed in people's faces!0 -

any suggestions gratefully rec'd.0 -
The best thing you can do is spread the word that PPC 'fines' are a scam. The more people that know, the less revenue for the scammers bringing about their deserved demise.Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!0

posts back are incredulous and range from a tame 'I didn't know that' to a mega-ballistic 'if they try it on with me I'll break their f***in' legs. in fact, I think I will anyway'.
I'm not antagonistic (mostly) but I'd get a real buzz out of wasting these chancers' time/money.0
