Mr White seems to have a very limited grasp of the law, as you can see from this webpage which talks about "penalty charge notices" and cars "parked illegally"

    Awwww diddums.

The garage "does not want" people to enter their forecourt out of hours and so have every right to prevent people from doing so. That's what I would say if I was the garage owner.

Not quite sure who you are having a dig at?
Garage got clampers in, thought they would stop the unwanted and leave customers alone. Found that they scared off customers as well. Would have thought they would have sussed that first. Now can't get rid of them. Can't see clampers winning any suit though as they were there to scare off parkers, not make money.

The company seems to think it's part of the police. On one of the signs you can buy off them it has this :-

Abusive and violent behaviour will not be tolerated and fined at £50

  • Hi , I have a quick question i got a parking ticket from central tickets for parking at the side of a building, I did not notice the sign saying no parking unloading and loading only (although when i did it is quite a large sign) It is for £100, should i still ignore even though i am in the wrong for parking there, although other people have been parking there for years, just my luck they enforce it the day i do it.

I am a worrier and don't know if can cope with the letters, how do you know what letters to take seriously

    thanks

None!!! The only document to take seriously is anything purporting to be a "Court Document" come back then, otherwise just relax, file the rubbish from the ppc, after reading and laughing of course, and enjoy the sunshine.

  • Hi all,

Sorry this has probably been discussed but would just like some advise/reassurance, as I am in a bit of a state about it!

I got a "parking charge notice" last week form a company called Parking Direct LTD. This is a private company, and they sent photos of my car outside Ealing Broadway station. Now, I say they sent photos of my car, but from the quality, there is no way you can read the registration plate, it's just a silver renault clio.
The date of the contravention was 03/11/09 yet I only got the notice last week.
My boyfriend dropped somebody off at the station, was there 2 mins (yes, i have told him off about it!) and now I have this notice. However, when I went to call them and pay, the two week period where you can pay a reduced charge of £60 had passed and they now wanted £150! I was upset at this as I didn't get the letter in time to pay the reduced fee!

Anyway, when I called up, the man was extremely aggressive, wouldn't let me speak and demanded I pay the money. I literally couldn't even get a word in edgeways and he was absolutely horrible. I like to think i am a strong minded 33 year old who is not easily flappable but came away from the call feeling very shaken and tearful.

After researching the company and parking charge notices on the net, it seems that as they are a private company, they cannot legally enforce me to pay (I cannot afford £150 and besides, do not want to give any money to such a vile man).

I have read Martin's guide who not only suggests ignoring the notcie, but also states that "if you were not the driver, you do not have to pay and are under no legal obligation to tell them who was driving".

This is the route I'd like to take, as I was not the driver, i was in work when the photos were taken.

Can anyone reassure me that this is the right thing to do? Do I just ignore the notice and any further notices/threats etc?

What I am worried about is that they have my contact details (phone number from when I called them as well as my address).

If anyone could please advise me I would be so grateful as right now I am feeling very stressed and worried!

    Thanks

Yes, just ignore. You have nothing to worry about.

Thanks Trisontana, so even if I get court summons etc I still ignore?

You are more likely to meet Elvis in the post office claiming his lottery win.
Post a pic of it on here, phone court to confirm its a fraud, which it normally is.

Or maybe it's just company policy to mess people around as much as possible and she was instructed to file a complaint of harassment by her employers against anyone who came to the office to rebuke a clamp charge to try stall any action against them.

Plus I thought they needed an injunction against you for power of immediate arrest and court, which they wouldn't have had?!

The lady's "boss" is the sole director and partner. Their son is the other clamper in the company. The incident was outside their house.
Police seemed firm in their powers further to the accusation of harrasment.
The judge instructed the court bailiff to serve the next injunction as I feared for my safety. This was accomplished but the bailiff was assaulted and the clampers drove at him in their tow truck.
Police arrested the clamper and the final outcome was the usual - no further action..!
