I've just been to my local Woolies to spend the £10 voucher I earned from surveys. I miscalculated and ended up at the till with £8+ of goods net of discount and thought I'd have to find something to make it up as they are no longer giving out vouchers. However the girl on the till told me they are now treating their vouchers as cash.
So if you have a high value voucher that you don't want to use straight away it would be well worth going to store to buy something worth, say, £5 assuming you will get the change in vouchers on the offchance that you will get cash change instead?
I didn't ask for official confirmation or anything, just passing on what I heard in the hope it might help someone.

Personally, I don't see the point in giving vouchers anyway, the just serve to limit where the recipient can spend it. I always just put a fresh from the bank £5/£10/£20 note in a card and then they can spend it wherever they like...plus they don't come with a use by date or risk becoming worthless if a company goes under. Why do people bother with vouchers anyway ? How about instead of throwing away £10 or more to spend in one shop and one shop only just give them the cash that they can use however they like ? All seems crazy to me.
People get vouchers for surveys *search on here for info* and they get paid in vouchers :-)
The person chooses a voucher they want, then uses it. I guess survey companies don't give money (notes) out as they can buy a bulk load of vouchers for a discount
Thanks for the info about Comet_Jen_0 -

Thanks for the info about Comet. Looks bad doesn't it. I still have a £10 Woolies voucher to use
RE: Vouchers: Yes, bingo. I earn a lot of vouchers from doing surveys. I like vouchers. And in terms of giving them as a present, it's a bit more personal than giving someone cash, in my opinion.
Comet, MFI, Woolies, Currys and Zavvi are on decidedly shaky ground, some more so than others. ALso, the Pinnacle entertainment group has gone bust, and they produce some CDs etc, so again, there may be certain supply issues.0 -

To be honest, if I were you, I would probably take them back. There may be Woolies open after Christmas but that is only a "maybe". If the administrators decide that the best way to recoup assets is shut stores then that is what they will do.I discovered I always have choices and sometimes it's only a choice of attitude :j0 -

Woolies have been told that they can decline to refund any gift vouchers but if you play up you will get your money back, if i was you go in now, while the sale is on, buy a mills and boon novel for 8p(!!) and use your voucher. Youll get it all back in cash and go somewhere else for a gift voucherFreebies - Savvy Shopping Bag, Energy Saving Plug, Hugo Boss SampleWinnings - Dvd The Road sold on Ebay for a tenner:j0 -
Personally if I or my children are given gift vouchers it makes me see red. Unless it is for a shop that sells everything (I used to say Woollies
My dd was give Next vouchers a few years ago and when I took her to the shop they had no clothes in stock for her age group I was told to look around then order and pay for delivery or come back in 3 days to try.:(
I cannot see the point in someone going to a shop to buy vouchers to give someone why not cash or a cheque? It limits where they can spend and also we live in the back of beyond and have to travel 40 miles to the nearest town with any larger shops. I am disabled so rely on oh to take us and guess what? He hates shopping! Some of these vouchers you can't even spend on line
Well thats my gripe for today0 -

A friend who works there said they have the ok at the moment to treat as cash so get rid of asap
I bought a couple of reduced things and turned the remainder to cash last weekend.
If they dont re stock and the staff are thinking christmas finish [ nothing is set in stone] if a buyer doesnt come along there may be nothing much to spend them on after christmas if they are still open
I personally wouldnt be risking it, have a wander and buy something for silly money or a small chocolate bar per voucher and cash the remainder in and if you really still want to give vouchers buy elsewhere0 -
cash your vouchers in asap if this is true
