Comet have stopped taking them as Kingfisher Gift Vouchers have temporarily ceased trading, due to the Woolworths problems. The administrator, DeLoittes, assured me last night that there was absolutely no problem with the cash paid for the vouchers. Kingfisher hope to be back in early 2009.Whilst it is very frustrating for those of us with vouchers, I can understand Comet's reluctance to take something in payment which might be worthless when they come to claim.Apparently B&Q are still happy with them - and I am seriously considering investing in £300 of Pick'n'Mix from Woolworths so that at least I get something for my money!!Just be careful - some of the vouchers have an expiry date on the back, so don't hang on too long in the hope of a change - you might find that the voucher is out of date and worthless anyway

Yes, Comet now have a message in the Help section of their website saying they won't accept Kingfisher vouchers.

My own experience is that I took delivery of £100 a few weeks ago of Kingfisher gift vouchers for spending at Comet!!!

They came from the National Shopping Monitor people saved up over the year and they refuse to take them back as they say I ordered Woolworths vouchers. I didn't, I ordered Kingfisher but their system says it's logged as a Woolworths voucher (there is no such thing as a Woolworths paper voucher to my knowledge, they are all Kingfisher) so they say it's not their problem. Very poor practice in my book.

I can spend at Woolies but not sure there is anything I want for £100 in there, neither is there in B & Q. Ho hum.

Anyone know if Woolies sell ipods instore - might go down that route instead. After a 120GB 6G Classic.......

Personally, I don't see the point in giving vouchers anyway, the just serve to limit where the recipient can spend it. I always just put a fresh from the bank £5/£10/£20 note in a card and then they can spend it wherever they like...plus they don't come with a use by date or risk becoming worthless if a company goes under.

  • I bought vouchers for my parents last from ryan air - great idea but NOT GOOD. it wasnt possible to use the voucher online, we HAD to call, which costs more when booking for a kick off and is sometimes very difficult to get thru. the voucher had to be used within 6 months, otherwise it would have expired.
Wouldnt do that again although things might have changed since last year.

this sort of scaremongering is sort of thing that sends already troubled retailers to the wall....

Why do people bother with vouchers anyway ? How about instead of throwing away £10 or more to spend in one shop and one shop only just give them the cash that they can use however they like ? All seems crazy to me.

No there not connected to Halfords. There not connected to any other stores now. A while ago they used to be part of the Kingfisher group which was made up of Woolworths, B&Q, Comet, Superdrug and MVC but they haven't been part of this group for a while now.

Sadly this isn't scaremongering. Woolworths is in admin. MFI is in admin. Two more smaller retailers went to admin today. By giving cash it may still be spent. My aim is simple, to get people to consider safety as part of the gift buying process and to explain their rights.

  • Zavvi may be on the way out too, especially as Woolies' entertainment division used to supply their CDs, DVDs, etc...
