It's common knowledge that Woolies will be open until January, they have announced they will continue trading throughout Christmas!

The webiste has been taken offline, as the company who processed payments for Woolies have ceased business with them so they have no way of making trade that way... or so I have read anyway.
  • I doubt Woolies will do this £1 thing. The administrators have a duty to get as much money as possible for the stock, and they normally leave stores open for quite a few weeks or months to sell everything off. When ILVA (the furniture store) went into adminstration, the administrators (with a skeleton staff) kept the stores running for a couple of months, and while prices were slashed, they certainly weren't giving things away.

The reason they'd have a mass sell is if someone bought it and wanted a clear-out of stock, or the administrators are faced with a huge rent bill, but I would have thought Woolies owned most of their sites.

It's been shut down for the foreseeable future, I'd give up trying, and shop somewhere else until this fiasco is over with. Woolworth's have even asked couriers to return any undelivered items.

I'm waiting for a delivery, should've been here last Friday.... do you think the money taken will be put back in the bank?? I'm not holding my breath, but the after school kids are desperatly waiting for their pool table so I'm hoping it arrives!!! :o

  • It's true. They've just done it in the Lytham store. I got mountains of stuff for a pound an item and sold it all on ebay.....made a lovely little profit to pay for a nice Christmas for my little girl.

Images of a local "Currys" store closing down a few years back. It was painful!

I remember when our only Woolworths store closed down back in the late 80s. It was Christmas eve and they were selling everything for 50p. I had just been paid my Christmas bonus so went and loaded up a trolley with chocolate and perfumes/toys/other smellies as pressies for everyone. It was awesome, that chocolate got me through to the summer ;)
Everyone was going mental and ripping stuff out of other shopper's hands. I had never seen anything like it in real life - just on the TV when it was the January sales.

Woolies did come back to Derby a few years ago and I can't believe we are going to lose them again :(
