    Hi,
I am new at this but am hoping someone on here can help?
I am 25 years old and have been stupid with credit since I was 18, I've got various creditors, so many I don't even know who they all are or what I owe.

As I am now sick of the daily letters and CCJ's against me I want to look at clearing my debt but I can't afford much and don't know where to start!!

I just want my credit to better for the future.

    Please help.

    Jessica
  • Jessica, you're probably better off starting your own thread. When you do, people will ask you for an SOA (statement of affairs) which lists all your incomings and outgoings. What I'd suggest you do is sit down tonight with a glass of wine, go through the pile of unopened bills & letters and work out what you owe. Once people have a better understanding of what the scale of the problem is, we can start to help

I'll be back in a mo with the SOA link

Sometimes just writing it all out makes things seem clearer.

    Hi Jessica

I'm sorry you ended up in such a state but you CAN get out of it, stage one is not nice, you need to find out exactly how much you owe and which cards/loans etc have the worst rates.

Secondly try writing to all the creditors and seeing if they will freeze the interest so you can start paying it off, in the meantime work out a budget so that you can work out how much you can afford to pay each month/week depending on when you get paid (do allow yourself a small amount of leeway for the occasional treat other wise you will crash and burn!).

Can you find anything to Ebay etc or get a small 2nd job anything to start bringing more in than you are paying out. Also try looking at the Old Style board for help with cheap meals etc

Thanks guys, will you join me for a mini party in here on the big day? :)

Stacy, my debt wasn't £18k (fortunately), it was just under £6k. I've been paying it off since October 2008.
