Well I can't believe it! We have been paying into a savings account, watching it build up while our debt balance decreases as we couldn't make overpayments to a loan. We have just phoned to check the redemption balance and we are £345 over!!!!
This journey started when we realised that a loan my boyfriend had taken out had suddenly snowballed to £16k!! Looking into it, it turns out they had added a lump sum payment protection and other bits which had doubled the loan. A google search found this site and it has quite frankly changed our lives a bit. Through this site we managed to reclaim the insurance as he had not ticked the box for it. That made the loan seem a more manageable amount. We switched our credit cards to interest free where we could and used the snowball. Through this site I have been doing surveys and mystery shopping and paying every single little amount into our savings account. Through this site I also started doing competitions and have had an amazing year, winning a fair amount in cash plus 14 nights 5 star all inclusive holiday for 4 which we are taking in November. We have had ups and downs, moving into a wee cottage which needed renovating (and heating), cars that needed replacing etc etc..We also got engaged at New Year but don't yet have any rings (to be honest we didn't need diamonds as it was a wonderful clear starry night on the moor - what more could you ask for).
We're now going to continue saving the same amount each month (unless I don't find work as I have just graduated). We have spent soooo much time talking and dreaming of this moment. Now we can move forward with our plan to rent out our cottage and move to Australia for as long as we want (maybe permanantly!). If we hadn't found this site our debt free date would be 2012 or beyond and quite frankly we wouldn't have been able to achieve our dream.
Crikey this is getting loooong so i'll shut up. But seriously thank you soo much, thanks Mizmir for this thread which gave us focus and gooood luck to all
