Just home from the work xmas doo, thanks to not drinking I have lots of shrapnel to feed the vodka bottle so its starting to look like quite a nice amount in there (still smells like vodka when I open it though, prehaps could have done with washing it out again). It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Hi all... just wondering what everyone is saving for or if you are saving to pay off a bit of debt etc.
Food items like fizzy pop, biscuits, sweets and specialist cheeses in particular. Probably also for a cake or ingredients to make one (depending what I'm doing work-wise at the end of the year, as to whether I have time to make one or not)
And younger DS (the only 'child' still living at home) can get through vast quantities of mince pies with cream given half a chance
In theory most of it will be coming from my Grocery Challenge budget anyway (that's where most of my cash comes from to get the loose change), and that's part of my 'live on £4k' challenge money !!!
But I figured this was easier than reducing my GC challenge money by a set amount each month, only to have a higher budget in DecemberCheryl0 -
Evening everyone.it's been eventful today hasn't it.
I have to say i'm all for paying off debts before saving but I personally don't see this as a serious saving mission. It's a bit of fun for me.A few coins here and there and boy was i surprised at my total last year.I don't have much money spare and don't have any savings as I live alot of the time hand to mouth as I am paying off debts I brought with me from my marriage. These savings alow me to buy things I wouldn't have been able too otherwise. This year we had £191 to take on our Haven holiday and £135 which treated me to a lovely xmas tree and decorations. It is nice to have a treat sometimes
Re the £5 note.I personally would have alerted the lady. She may have been a fellow MSE'er you never know.Had I found it in the street then that would have been a different matter. But each to their own.
Stunty, Sparky, Sue and fellow savers hope you're doing ok.I'm feeling great at the moment.Must be the excitement of christmas.I've been out spending which means my pot has been fed toolost my way but now I'm back ! roll on 2013

Back from the cinema, used my 2-4-1 vue card of course! Did treat the niece to a hot chocolate and popcorn though, so lots of golden coins in the pottie.:T
Feeling a bit sorry for Puddings as they didn't actually ask what anyone else would do in the same situation:rolleyes: and it's not very nice to be publicly judged - whatever we've been up to:A
I hope tomorrow brings more pennies - and a warmer forum to everyone. xxxSave me from spending...

Hi all... just wondering what everyone is saving for or if you are saving to pay off a bit of debt etc.
I thought about spending it on a ticket to a music festival but I'd have to dip into it mid way through the year so I'll probably use it for christmas presents or if it's a good three figures, stick it in my savings.
I've not managed to put a lot in recently but have been collecting 5ps and coppers for a while previously, not sure if using these are cheating?? I have had to cash them in before when I've been skint! So at least I'll try to keep them for a year :j:hello:

I amn't sure what I'm going to do with mine yet. I have an online savings account for Christmas, but if I need to dip into that for an emergency then I will use my Sealed Pot for Christmas.
If I manage to pay for Christmas before I open my Sealed Pot, then some of it will be going on my debts (A lot of which I also hope to pay off before December 2009!) and the rest will treat me and t'other half in the post-Christmas sales. I usually buy a lot of our clothes for the year just after Christmas!!

A very warm welcome to the thread T. x and sgmt2006 it's always good to 'see' new faces, I hope you both enjoy saving and sharing in the chat. You can find your numbers at the bottom of the list on page 1.
Hi LC, I think we've finally decided that ours is going towards the digital change-over and a much needed TV! Not a bad idea as we change in April! ..........Well done on finally getting through from your PC Sparky!!!:T Excellent news!! :j.......So pleased to hear you're feeling so much better today Stunty, you too Molly, you sound very upbeat, well done indeed, especially with all you saved!!! :T....All the very best Jess, take good care of yourself and always remember your inhalers no matter what!!! I have asthma too, but it only affects me badly during exertion and at wet/cold times of year. So young Jess .....wrap up!!!........irishwexford thanks for the note (a great idea to put my name on the top bar to attract) and I've gladly changed your target to £160, good luck with getting it or going over.
Hi to everyone: A great deal has been said here about money taken that we know someone had just left behind due to absentmindedness, haste or similar. Please everyone, let's be sensible about this sort of challenge as it was never intended for it to be a "get it by any means" sort of thread. I would also like us to - ALWAYS - consider others when money is dropped, left behind etc. If we see the person who left/dropped it, then please ~ do what is only right and honest and give it back! Please can I ask that if a similar situation should ever arise again, please stop and consider the fact that the money in question might just be all that the person concerned had left in his or her purse/wallet until the next pay day and at this time of year especially, or any other (!!), it could really mean the difference between happiness and despair!! We all as MSE members wouldn't wish the latter on anyone now would we?! I would hope we would also find it easy to stop and think "what if that were me?"
With regard to another matter brought up: We can all afford different amounts to pop into our pots and whether they are small or larger isn't what matters most, it's the joy that each brings to the saver that's most important. Change left over after shopping, 'road finds', cleaning out the car, or similar are what we mainly manage to save from, just loose change that isn't often missed and that we can make ourselves afford - for our own good in the future!
Until today there has been no ill feeling at all on this thread and there certainly was none on mumzy's of last year and that's the way I wish it to remain so we can all have the great pleasure that has been so evident on here since it started up. It's been a real joy to share in all the great enthusiasm, thanks folks. Now, let's please get back to saving and chatting about the good day ...or not so ...that we've had. ...How to make a Piggy bank, giving/taking advice etc; let's ALL enjoy each others company without losing sight of a fun challenge!
Another great day of saving our change folks, well done!Though, not a single penny has come my way
, but maybe Monday!!
Keep warm and have a great Sunday all.
