MSD - please ignore the hiss when trying to control a cat. May I recommend getting a plant mister - on the most concentrated setting they can be a very effective form of discipline on many cats and they can be very inexpensive (evil cat ignores it, but it has worked on other cats that have possessed us over the years). Evil cat and I came to an arrangement that if I was going to sit in the chair she had to vacate it but I wouldn't move her if I didn't mean it. I had to suffer a great deal of hissing and threats and I persevered for over a year before I got her to 'sign up' to the Arrangement. I just had to keep moving her. And moving her. And moving her.
Evil cat has become more stubborn with age. She is currently begging relentlessly for the meat from my sandwich. Regrettably there is no meat left (and I leave you to guess who had the bigger portion).Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
Afternoon :hello:
Am feeling a bit shattered and lethargic. Need to pop to Lidl and Tesco after work for a few essential odds and ends - I'm quite pleased with myself as I did have a shopping list a mile long, before taking a second look at it and realising that most of it could wait until I have run out of some of the stuff I already have. I would prefer to go to Asda as the things I need are a bit cheaper there, but as it is further away and less easy to get home from, I don't mind the few pence difference.
Then I have a couple of reviews to write. I hope I might get at least one of them finished this evening so I feel I've achieved something. And might knock up a batch of butternut squash soup for the freezer. Anybody have a failsafe recipe?
I am busy for the rest of this week, but after that my schedule gets nice and manageable until Christmas (only one or two busy nights each week) which I'm really looking forward to. I am having a good old declutter at home. I've already found two things I thought I had lost, and my flat is already looking much tidier.
celyn - your posts do make me laughI don't let myself near a sewing machine as I would have roughly the same results...
Happy birthday to Mr Redruby and hugs to those in need.
Love Rzl xx :wave:Operation Get in Shape

Sat here in 3 layers of cardies/sweaters etc cos its damn cold but I am not putting the heating on- we have Oil central heating and I have never had it before so don't know how much oil usage is normal yet- trying to conserve where we can!
My little guy had great fun with his toddler friends this morning- we have a great HV and Nursery Nurse and they organise this group 2x a month.
Despite being cold, I have just made some mango ice cream!!:rotfl:
My neighbour had a load of cream left over from the "Pudding and Wine' fundraiser we went to on saturday so she gave me big jugful and I decided to use up the mangoes that came in my veg delivery!! No-one likes mangoes to eat just on their but I don't want to waste them!! I don't have an ice cream maker so will be doing the OS way- bashing it with a fork every 30 mins!!!!
Kitchen is clean and I was going to make some iced buns and cupcakes for the kids but I am so tired- little guy had me up 3 times in the night then ended up in our bed and punched me on the nose at some point in the night!! I think I might just have a quick nap instead!
I really need to hoover when little guy wakes up!
Have a good afternoon!0 -
Just popping in. Everything posted. Y'know I've made the mistake of venturing onto another forum - and I won't be giong back. Nit pick nit pick...... All I said was I don't like getting postal orders for e-bay stuff as it's a lot of faff and I post from my PC and thus have to go to the post office to cash the order and you would have thought I was advocating compulsory brussel sprouts for everyone!!But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Beth Taplady and Rzl Thanks for the Birthday Wishes for my OH, I will pass them onto him later, .
Have just made a cottage pie for tonight with cabbage and green beans, and dd prepared some meatballs for tomorrow night.
Popped into Argos and collected a new blind for our bedroom, and nipped into Mr T to order some photos for our Xmas cards. And I also bought the very last present I needed which was for my friends dd, who's Birthday is on Boxing day, so all done now, just need to make the cards, and wrap presents :T .
Having a rest now for an hour, will watch a bit more or my opera dvd's which Rzl kindly copied for me. :T

Now have hobnobs in the oven, they smell luvverly.
Re my visit to Man Utd at the weekend. Hubby, son people at work all have had sore throats and colds over the last week or so. Have been praying I don't get it, and guess what. have woken up with a rotten sore throat. Can put up with a cold but I hope I don't start to feel under the weather as I have been looking forward to this trip for months now grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr S*d's law eh0 -
My sprouts went on on August Bank Holiday!!
honey and lemon and glycerine. Boiled onions (massive antibacterial properties), mustard bath and paracetamol. Also strawberries have more Vitamin C per weight than Oranges!!
As a city fan I could say, never mind you won't miss muchBut I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0 -
Washing in (compulsory - little bear woke with an extremely explosive nappy)
Bread maker on with first attempt at wholemeal loaf
Stew on stove (too late to put in slowcooker and will add veggies during the rest of the afternoon as little bear permits already has loads of onion, some carrots and celery, soup mix and dried peas in with the bacon)
Grocery delivery finalised
Weetabix cake made
However, little bear is now awake. Currently he is in his high chair with toast but as soon as that is finished I am in trouble!
Rage in Eden - I only venture very carefully away from this board. The ebay board is perhaps the least pink and fluffy board on here, with the housing board following close behind. Stick your head above those parapets at your own peril - it's like feeding dragons unfamiliar coal, likely to be explosive and unpredictable.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
 Happy Birthday Mr redruby, hope she's treating you right:D
Rzl, I use a recipe for butternut squash soup given to me by Aussie, and it's lovely, never failed me. I couldn't find it anywhere, she must have PM'd me so here it is.
Pumpkin Soup
4 cups chopped pumpkin, small cubes
2 chopped onions
Fry onions in 2 tbs butter until soft, add pumpkin and fry for 7 minutes (yes she was that specific!!:D ) stirring constantly.
Add 4 cups of chicken stock and simmer until the pumpkin is soft. Puree, season with salt and pepper and simmer for a further 5 minutes. Add a splash of milk or cream if wished.
It really is delicious, and I've done it with vegetable stock when I didn't have any chicken stock, still lovely.
Well it's been a rainy old day today and I was out for most of it, so nothing to report really:o Oh the washing basket is empty:D And if it takes its time drying on the airers, the ironing pile will remain empty too. Result!!
Off out again in half an hour, so off for a quick look round. CM :wave:You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0
