    Evening All,

I have had a good day today- Had a lazy day too so I would usually crave junk but not today (as Buzz Lightyear would say :D ) I have had-

    B: Musli
    L: Kiwi and Grapes
D: Broccoli, Cauliflower, Carrots, Greens, Cabbage, Swede and Peas- I'm not looking forward to my 'eh,hem bowel movements tomorrow :o In fact I may not even last that long :rotfl:

Not been snacking today... So all in all a good day :j I may actually weigh myself next week....

JoJo I forgot to say thank you  So if I was to freeze them, would I be able to defrost them and add them to salad? I don't usually eat casseroles/stews etc. didn't realise that was what they were for :rotfl:

if i set a target of 12 stone

what type of diet and exercise would i need to do too acheive this

    im 47

    also im a taxi driver--night/shift

so fast food is easily available

Hi Black Taxi and Welcome to the Group :j

I can't advise of exercise yet as I haven't started myself :o gratefulforhelp was right when she said "tomorrow never comes" :rotfl: so if you can start by doing anything such as walking or cleaning then do!

As for the "food plan" how about something heavy for brekkie when you wake up- porridge/weetabix/musli that sort of thing and then for lunch how about a salad with fish or wholemeal pitta bread something along those lines and for dinner I usually repeat my lunch or cook up a load of veg and do enough for the following days lunch and have a large salad for dinner- Sounds quite boring but I'm an awkward eater as I don't eat meat or fish so I just pop some quorn into my lunch/dinner meal :o So you're better off following the others advice :rotfl:

As for snacking, I keep grapes (red and white) handy either at home or break a few off and pop them in a container to take out with me. I find them ideal for a quick fix! Dried fruit is good too but like grapes they have a fair bit of natural sugar in them... How about a banana? I personally don't like them but I do find that they fill a hole.... Can't think of anything else at the moment but Good Luck :T

Hi is it possible to join in with you all??

I've been losing weight slowly but surely for over a year now (since about Feb 08) so far I've lost nearly (but not quite) 4 and half stone. I still have about another 4 to go though I'd be happy with 3.
I'm now slowing and struggling and finding it harder and harder to keep it up plus after having health problems I've now returned to work which is twilight shifts (3pm-1am) and they are seriously messing me up!!! :o

I'd just like to get some extra encouragement, some new ideas for what to eat (get so bored of the same thing all the time) and also how to keep costs down as no matter how often everyone tells me fruit and veg are cheaper than crappy food, my shopping bills just get higher!!

Bit about me is i'm 30, female, mum to 1, wife to a skinny beggar who eats carp from dusk til dawn and yet is borderline underweight :( and work as a PT nurse.

    Hiya Beccam :)

I know exactly what you mean about keeping the costs down!!!:T

I am putting more healthy foods on my shopping list and lighter choices and also finding easy, healthy recipes to make form scratch that both me and my OH will eat(not as easy as it sounds lol):p

My shopping has rocketed by adding extra fruit for snacking and veg for filling out dinners with and other things to make meals with to keep me away from bread:rotfl:
Have put quorn on my list(to make bolognese and chillis and shep pie with as it is lower in fat) and also looking at veggie recipes as they are healthier, it is dead expensive though:rolleyes: .

I was looking at what a lot of ppl on another forum ate to keep costs down and a lot of tesco value noodles kept coming up so i looked at them and yes they are cheaper(8p) lol but omg they have double the fat and calories(well it is higher lol) so cheapest isn't always the best there is more fat and empty calories in them. So my trouble is making healthy meals full of veg and lean meat or fish but once again keeping the cost down:j but blimey it is hard work and is taking a lot of researching and tasting of new meals(apprehensive OH agrees lol:T).

I too would love some cheap healthy recipes to compile my own document with(got a good few already to try out).

Does anyone know a cheaper alternative to Quorn??? I am quite new to using it :A

Hi Beccam and Welcome to the Group :hello:

Unfortunately I'm no good with recipe ideas as I tend to stick to the same things :o
But I can see how your twilight shifts may be an advantage to you... If possible why not go around the supermarkets that are open 24 hours before going home?! Not only are they quiet but my local ones have a heck of a lot of stuff being reduced during those wee hours... The other week I managed to bag stuff like swede reduced to 20p, carrots reduced to 15p for a massive bag, greens reduced to 20p, parsnips reduced to 20p, Tesco finest tomatoes on the vine for 20p as well as a few other bits which would of otherwise cost a few pounds. And as I store it in the fridge it actually tends to last longer :j

Also I find markets cheaper than supermarkets.

Gunna, I could just about cope if it wasn't for OH, I could live on pasta/noodles/rice with veg but hubs just isn't into those things plus I have to think of DD whos 3 and taking after her dad in that shes very thin. Don't have time, money or energy to cook seperate meals for him or me so end up with the same things every night!

During winter I had a lot of homemade veg soup since a big pack of soup veg plus a few extra carrots costs so little and makes so much but apart from eating so much of it I can't look at it anymore, its also just not the same when its summer time!!

    My fav recipe is....
    Pepper pasta.
    1 red pepper
    1 orange pepper
    1 yellow pepper
    6-8 tomatoes
    few cloves of garlic
    low fat creme fraiche
    pasta

chop all the veg into big rough chunks, put on a baking tray in the oven and cook til soft but not too mushy.
Meanwhile cook pasta according to instructions.
When veg is cooked, divide in half, puree one half and all the garlic using hand blender then add in rest of veg (unblended) stir in a big tablespoon of LF creme fraiche season to taste and serve with pasta.

It makes a creamy veg sauce which makes me feel like I'm eating something 'naughty' but is very low fat, filling enough to have for lunch and only need a light dinner.
I've also tried it using tinned tomatoes and just warming them in a pan before adding to peppers and it was OK (not quite so tasty IMO!)

Can also do it with mushrooms and more garlic though need a bit more creme fraiche as its thicker.

The night staff there all know me now!! My only problem is I have to be sooooo organised because I'm totally brain dead by that stage and can't think at all so have to have a list done before I leave for work....will have to try harder to do that now.

Oh dear I can see I'm going to end up addicted to this thread now!

One other question though (I'm going to sound stupid now) what do you do with swede???

Oooh thanks Beccam now that sounds lovely and something my OH would love hehe:T:T

Here is a recipe i recently found and thought sounded really tasty and not too unhealthy either:

    Quick prawn curry

    1 onion chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed or finely chopped
    tin of chopped tomatoes
bag of frozen prawns (defrosted) - we use 300g
    250ml vegetable stock
curry powder (tescos own is nice) mild medium or hot depending on your taste - again how much depends on your taste
Oil (olive, vegetable - presumably whatever type you have)

Gently fry the onion & garlic in the oil till translucent. Add the curry powder . Stir for a minute or so. Add the chopped tomatoes and the veg stock, bring to the boil and then simmer for 10 mins till it reduces and thickens. Add the prawns & cook for 5 mins or so to heat them through. We have this with egg pilau rice (i buy the pilau but then add chopped egg)

It sounds like something me and OH would like, also quick and tasty as we love prawn curry, i would personally not add curry powder but instead use cumin, garam masala and a pinch of chilli powder and fresh chillies:rotfl: and loads of fresh coriander yummy!!!!

I haven't tried it yet but am certainly going to as i make a full fat prawn curry at the moment which is out of this world but uses double cream:o:oso is a one of treat for me but OH goes wild for it lol:A

I go to my Tescos usually about 12-1am i love it at that time it is so lovely and quiet but alas no bargains usually as my Tesco is rubbish for reduced items and has a load of crap that no one wants usually or is over priced for a piece of meat that is clearly brown and going off:eek:the night staff know me too hehe well they know my OH more as they get on his bus lol:o
