I hadn't come across macaroni pudding until I moved into my current place - my housemate was brought up on it and feeds it to me occasionally! It's so stodgy you can't move for hours afterwards
As for bread pud, I have happy memories of eating it as a child. I've posted the following on here before, it's my mum's "recipe":
"Bread pudding is made on the principle that if you have it, you put it in, i.e. a pawful of this and that. You soak the bread in milk until it’s soggy, and squidge it all together, add a couple of beaten eggs, dried fruit, mixed spice, sugar of any colour, mixed peel, marmalade, etc, etc. Then you spread it into a roasting tin, grate some nutmeg on the top if you’ve got it, and bake it slowly until it’s brown and yummy. It should remain squidgy in the middle but crusty on the top. I’ve never had a formal recipe, that one always works for me."Operation Get in Shape

my mum makes bread pudding most Sundays, usually in the microwave. She also makes jam sponge in the microwave - so nice and moist and quick. Her other 'microwave pudding' is 'baked' apples - we have a big apple tree in the garden so have them loads every autumn!!
it can't be that uncommon, the chefs at work sometimes make it and put it on the desserts specials and its always really popular!0 -

My mum & I still make bread pudding, not very often in my case I must admit but mum makes it very regularly & INSISTS it should have gravey browining in it to get it to the right colour:p:rotfl: I don't eat mum's, I think it makes it much to dry:p But then, my mum has a bit of a gravey browing fetish, she once used it to make pale pink paint darker:eek::rotfl:And that paint stayed on our living room walls for 8 years:rolleyes:Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

I love bread pud, too. And I did the same as you, thriftlady, and used up all the rest of the mincemeat in the last batch!
Yummy!0 -

oooh all this talk of pudding is making me hungry. Been inspired to make bread & butter pud using up some stollen and panetone (sp?) left over from christmas. Its quite rich so I've only put 2 teaspoons of honey in the milk and egg mix, buttered the stollen, slathered some apricot jam on the panetone slices, then left it to soak in for half an hour before bunging it in the oven. Im feeling quite chef-y so I sprinkled some flaked almonds on top
It smells divine but I can only have a teeny amount
OH is making custard as we speak *drool*
