My waistline...OS really isn't waistline friendly...
  • Lemon layer pudding is my favourite from childhood and I love milk jelly as well - although the kids aren't as keen.

  • I find a nice twist to a custard tart is to put sultanas in. They sink to the bottom and swell up and just add to the general yumminess.

I do bread pudding, bread and butter pudding, rice pudding, pineapple sponge, syrup sponge, chocolate cake, choc chip sponge cake, sultana sponge.

But I do bread pud with the bread soaked in water and with no extra sugar added (lots of raisins etc and some sugar sprinkled on top after though). Try not to use milk as it doesn't do me any good. :o

But... now I need to get rid of some weight!!

I love making and eating old fashioned puddings....much nicer than the new fangled modern stuff.

This is my recipe if anyone's interested. It makes a huge pud-I use a large roasting tin,I freeze leftovers.

soak together for a couple of hours
    2 lb breadcrumbs/crusts-any bread
    1 pt milk

beat the lumps out with a fork-it doesn't have to be completely smooth
    add
    4 oz soft brown sugar
1 lb mixed dried fruit and/or candied peel
    2 oz self-raising flour
    3 tsp mixed spice
1 packet of melted butter(or 250g melted marge if you must)
    2 tbsp golden syrup
    1 tbsp marmalade(not essential)

mix well, pour into large greased tin/dish
bake for 1 hour at 180c(not sure what gas)

    HTH :)

Hello, been thinking about bread pudding ever since I read this thread. A friend at school used to bring bread pudding in for our maths teacher. I seem to remember it was a bit cake like, quite sweet, but dark, but lighter to aet than a fruit cake. Is this the same bread pudding..?? Was just a bit worried because when I googled for pictures, alot of the recipes said cook until set...and I remember it being more cake like, not something you have to eat with a spoon?

    I really fancy some now!!

    Thanks!

My kids absolutely loved this pudding when they were small .. its simply a large jam swiss roll sliced up in a bowl and then slowly pour a pint of hot custard over and let it soak in... I used to sprinkle with sugar just to stop a skin forming while it was cooling and soaking in.....
It takes no time to make but the kids luv it...:T
