  • Thanks Numpty - just I've always had that luck in the past... If I cancel the insurance, it will likely to break!! Maybe i need not to be so pessimistic!

    I completely agree on the emergency fund - but until I get enough spare cash to create one... that's my worry!

  • I agree - I'd cancel the insurance!

    When I took out my consolidation loan (yup - I went to the bank instead of MSE and for exactly the same amount too!!) - they also tried to sell me payment protection at £40 per month - my "old skool" dad, advised me not to take it, but to save the £40 a month instead, just in case anything ever went wrong. I didn't actually listen to him, thankfully I've never been redundant or anything so everything's fine - but you're definitely better saving the cash and having to find the difference if anything goes wrong, rather than giving the money away - then if your luck's anything like mine - it'll all go well for another 15 years!! ;)

  • Thanks CWM

    (Are you my twin?! ;)) I didn’t take out the insurance either on loan… I have a separate protection on my wages anyway as being a homeowner, and with the current climate – I can’t risk losing my house. I looked into that and realised it covers me, not a particular product. So I told the bank a polite ‘no thank you’ to their insurance and felt very proud that I had done that!!!

    Right I’m going to cancel the washing machine insurance at the end of the month. I’ve just made a payment, so not cancelling it til then (keeping the cover I've just paid for!!) I will check paperwork as well – make sure I’m not in any breach of a years contract thing – although I’m sure I’ve not signed anything for the last few years. That’s then going into the ISA!!

    Just setting myself a reminder to do the above!!!

    Today my plan is to call Vodafone – cancel the phone insurance – I mean how stupid am I?!? and drop tariff!! :cool:

    Thanks again numpty - love the baby steps one - your smileys make me smile!!
    Here’s to a productive day :beer:

    Hi LittleEmms!!

    How about a little sneaky and do something to the washing machine so it competely dies and then get a new one whilst you are still insured (does your policy cover this?). Cancel the policy and start saving for any problems in the future. Not strictly ethical (and I am now waiting to get told off by loads of people on here - SORRY in advance!!) but it does solve 2 problems!!:rotfl:
    I wish I could keep these sneaky thoughts in my head - but as you have paid for the cover, it does seem such a shame not to use it!!!
    start = Wed 19th Nov 2008 £21,225
    end = Mon 28th Sept 2015 DEBT FREE!
    I love a good plan - it may not work.... but I love a good plan!
  • Eh - talking of less ethical suggestions - cancel the insurance, if it breaks down, take out a new policy, wait a week and then claim! Might look slightly suspicious - but they can't prove a thing!!

    Of course - I'd never condone doing such a thing - those big not-for-profit insurance companies clearly need the money more than I do! ;)
