I am on that freesat deal and when it came to the end of the free period they started charging me £19 a month as I expected.
However in the last 3 months I saw the charge increase to £19.26 and last month it was £20.
I haven't been informed of these price increases, does anyone know if these are the standard charge or am I being overcharged?0 -
Why are people using them
There are two alternatives okay maybe not as good as the full package
Freview about 40+ channels one off payment £20-£50 tops you need a aerial
Freeview+ same as above one off payment £120-£200 for a box that records two channels and sometimes plays a 3rd, it can do series too
http://www.freeview.co.uk/freeview/Services/Freeview
Freesat (need a sky dish and a twin LNB to get most out of it) play freesat Standard Definition and High Definition depending on the box SD boxes range from £50-£70 HD boxes range from £100-£150
Freesat as above but you can now get a pvr that can record (Humax Foxsat-HDR) Freesat now give free HD, this box is much better than sky+ box costs is £292 but this box as the latest chipset state of the art
Most modern LCD's now have freview and some (Panasonic now have freesat)0 -

To be fair, it is actually a price 'increase' insofar as the VAT exclusive price will be increasing - so for business users, their costs will in fact be increasing.
However the flipside of that is that the advertised price is not changing - meaning greater margin for Sky and comparative misfortune for the great majority of Sky users who cannot reclaim their VAT as they will be stung when the VAT returns to 17.5% - which is a net effect that will largely be missed by those that can reclaim their VAT.

It might look the same, but it's on average 2.17% better in some wayThe thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

I'm not certain of my facts but I am sure I read somewhere that Sky are registered for VAT in Luxembourg so they may not be subject to the decrease. The problem is Sky are not very good at informing their customers of these things! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Now that OP has edited both title and contents to say 2.12% my clarification is no longer relevant, as the first post is far less confusing. Thanks to all who post constructively.

Poor showing by sky
I am not a lover of Sky and the way they treat customers, but before making this a crusade against Sky, remember that there will be many others that do not pass the decrease on. There were plenty posting on the forums last week who run businesses and said they wont pass it on. Why do you not say the same about them? The principle is the same.0 -
We changed from sky as they kept putting there prices up with out letting you know, we were on direct debt and they never tell you just take the extra
Sorry but thats not so. Sky always give notice with SKYMAG. If people choose to throw it out without looking who's fault is it?
I am not saying you did this.0 -
Companies, can then keep staff on as they can make a profit and continue business without having to cut back staff. I would say this is the real reason for the governments VAT scheme
I think its very knaive to think 2.5% off VAT will stop a business cutting back staff.
If a business is struggling it is not going to say hang on, i can keep staff on now. No way.0
