I am fortunate to be working in Bermuda for a construction company as a project manager/estimator/dogsbody. Originally came out here thinking if I got two years I would be happy. I wasn't looking to work abroad at the time but (cutting a long story short) I managed to make contact with a friend from my school/college days. I had no idea where he was working at the time, but he was out here, and knew of a company looking for someone with my qualifications. After thinking about it for a while, as in should I or shouldn't I, I plucked up the courage and made contact with the Company, nothing ventured, nothing lost. The interview comprised a 5 minute telephone conversation mainly on golf, ten years later, I'm still here.........
The future doesn't look too bright though:-
Construction here has bombed in the last month or so.
My Work Permit expires in September, and is non-renewable due to new legislation.
These things can change and I will only worry about them when they happen, but hey-ho, life goes on. I suspect that this site will be getting some major abuse from me in the next 6-9 months as I try to fathom out what has changed in the UK and where to get the best deals0 -
