What's the strangest "substitute" item you've been offered on your home delivery?

I just got my delivery from Asda, I ordered a pack of mini cheesecakes, but was substituted with a pack of mini toad-in-the-hole's!

It can often be something as silly as a different design (which would have a different barcode). Can't explain it if you ordered non-decorated ones though.

I'd decided to make tandoori king prawns for dinner, and ordered tandoori spice in my Asda shop, which was arriving early afternoon. The spanners sent me mixed spice instead - hot-cross-bun-flavoured prawns, anyone?

Who decides on the subs?

I think most of my subs have been useful and relevant . I must admit I do put "long sell by date" in any box that comes up ,so I know whatever I get will be useable or tradeable by/with a neighbour.

I ordered pantene shampoo and received pantene conditioner as a substitute and a quorn lasagne and received a beef lasagne

My "surprise" gifts have been a magazine and massive box of powdered milk.

I have to admit to getting a bit creative with subs (but only if there wasn't anything normal to sub with, and I always kept it sensible...but then I use to put promotional labels out so knew a greater range of our stock) I always went with the theory that the customer would much rather receive something they can return if not wanted than not have it sent and they would of kept it (if that makes any sense!!!)

my hubby is a delivery driver for one of the aforementioned stores and the best he ever came home to tell me about was a customer order rainbow trout and was subbed for Rainbow Skittles!!!!! i swear he was crying with laughter over that one.


i think my fave so far here tho is the tampax/twix sub!

I once had coconut milk subbed with Bounty Bars - didn't make a very nice Thai Curry though.
