Turkey mince

  • Hi!

I bought some organic turkey mince from the butcher when I was in getting some bones for the dog. I don't know why, as I am vegetarian. The OH and the kids will eat chicken/turkey but I don't cook it for them normally, I think is was the organic label that caught my eye, as I try not to buy anything from animal sources unless its organic and free range.

Now despite cooking for a living once upon a time I am a bit lost about what to do, I thought maybe some sort of burger or meatballs (chilli etc are out as they are family meals and I would want to make enough for all of us) or Kofta type thing. The only thing is no cheese please, the OH won't eat it.

    Ideas, please?

Feed it to the dog. Easily the best thing to do with any sort of turkey.
  • Thanks Andy, that wasn't quite the plan though :rotfl:

I occaisionally use turkey mince to make a chilli or a spag bol.

I use turkey mince to make spag bol in the usual way. I also add red lentils and grated carrot to bulk it out. We love it made this way. I also split the mixture when cooked and keep for another day when I make it into chilli by adding red kidney beans and chilli powder (a spoon of black treacle & sprig of rosemary make all the difference to this mixture).

Sorry just noticed that you don't want to do this
  • Thanks, but I really don't want to use it for this, as I use lentils/beans and/or quorn because I don't eat meat myself. :)

    Use it to make Tacos?
Fry it with onion, pepper & mushroom & stuff the mixture into taco shells.
Serve with sour cream or salsa.

  • To make turkey burgers I usually just add some fried chopped onions, breadcrumbs, worcestershire sauce, sour cream and lemon juice to the turkey and shape it into burgers... They're quite moist so it's a good idea to put them in the fridge to firm up for a bit before you cook them. :)

But if my dog came to me like this I would feel compelled to feed it to him :rotfl:
