Experimenting as a seller, I used two accounts to sell 50 DVD's each - one had lower P&P with recycled jiffy bags/bubblewrap and mailbags and after 50 sales had a P&P DSR of 4.4, but the account with higher P&P and brand new jiffy bags had 4.8...

It's all in the perception of the customer.

  • That's odd. I've sent and received loads of stuff in recycled packaging and I'd rather pay less for a pre-used jiffy bag (assuming it's still secure and reasonably clean).
  • The look of my ebay packaging can leave a lot to be desired as I always recycle - but also always use lots of bubble wrap to ensure the item is well protected.

I'm surprised by the number of people who complain about high P&P charges; surely when buying on ebay one considers the total price meaning the only difference between a £10 item with £20 P&P and a £20 item with £10 P&P is the fee ebay charges? Given the genreal negative sentiment to ebay fees I can't understand why high P&P, low price auctions are not approved of on threads like this.

I charge low-ish P&P to keep my stars up though.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I received a book once wrapped in newspapers.

At first I thought they were recycling and using their imagination then I remembered how much they had charged for p+p and thought what a bl**dy cheek!

The last time I sold some clothes, shoes, etc on ebay I packaged them using wall lining paper and masking tape.

The lining paper was very thick and good to wrap the parcels up with and the masking tape sealed the package up well.

My dad is a painter and decorator, so it didn't cost me anything, but I would imagine that a roll of lining paper and masking tape would cost a lot less and would wrap a lot more items than some other packaging types.

Interesting to see this bumped up...

I had a huge pile of used jiffy bags that I'd decided not to send out eBay items in given the result it had on my DSR's.

I've used them now to wrap an item, then place it inside a new poly mailbag. Slightly more professional looking than just reusing the bag on it's own, but also a bit more robust than bubble wrap.

And eco-friendly and all that tree-hugging stuff!

Not through eBay, but I bought a computer new and had to send it back. The box was HUGE and I had thrown away all the packing material in it.... I had to fill it with our cardboard ready for recycling... I wonder what they thought opening the box of a computer worth a huge amount of money and found all the crap inside including toilet roll inners and tampax boxes :o
    I love surprises!

I use carrier bags, inside out for clothes, usually the 5p ones that are stronger than the free ones, mind you, I only charge exact postage.
I'm also happy to get parcels in whatever packing people send as long as it is wrapped well and safely.

The wall lining paper sounds good but as for masking tape i wouldn't be happy to see that, it's not very sticky and doesn't hold. That's why i use it for making straight crisp lines with make-up as when you pull it off it doesn't take your face with it :p

I personally re-use padded envelopes from play, afrocare etc aswell as other packing items from other sellers.

but i do also use new jiffys and and tissue paper.

never had one complaint from a buyer about re-used items.

But i understand what the OP means, who wants a piece of clothing regardless whether if its new or not in a minging old mouldy bag?
