I am so pleased they managed to do it. I thought they were a lovely family and they worked so hard for it.
I get the impression they threw all the money at the mortgage and were then going to have to continue to sell the hotpods (or license the idea) to pay for the tax on the profits.MFIT No. 810 -
I was also pleased to see they had paid it off - or had they, i was a bit confussed, because i thought Dan was behind with making his hotpods!!!??? I supose on paper they had paid it off.0

I'm not sure if they have physically paid off their mortgage or not from the programme. Presumably dan doesn't get paid for the hotpods until he has delivered them & they need to factor in the tax that will need to be paid (& presumably VAT since he was close to the threshold).
Having said that, let's not take away from the fact that they made a huge (& apparently positive) change to their lives, and got serious results. Good on them. I know I'm not disciplined enough to do that, but it shows what people can achieve when they set their minds to it.
Whether they actually paid it of or not, they're very close, certainly a lot nearer than they would have been without the programme.
PS: We're just about to buy a wood burning stove - I think the Hotpod is absolutely brilliant, but being tight, I can't afford one of those , so will make do with the one we planned. They were a brilliant product and I hope he carries on making them - the demand is clearly there.0 -
Hi all!
First time Ive seen this type of TV thing, but really loved it!
I really warmed to the family, and their kids were brilliant - looked like they were having a really good life together.
But........
Whislt they did great, and Im pleased for them, Im not sure how much relevance their situation has for anyone else.
I mean - on first glance, you would say "here we have a couple of surfers, living in a small mortgaged cottage, both working part time - can they pay off their mortgage?"
And if you put it like that - first off, it sounds a real challenge, and secondly, almost impossible to achieve.
But its not the true picture - because hidden in there is the fact that one half of the partnership has the ability to make a product that produces £1000 profit a time !!!!!
Once that came to light, it seemed to me it would only be a matter of time before they did pay their mortgage off - I mean, Dan is capable (when pushed) of making £100 grand a year!
Which means he could cut his efforts in half and still make £50K
Again - Im not taking anything away from them - Im just wondering how it relates to the rest of us?
All the best

I thought tonights programme was much better than the last series, they didn't dwell on the first year too much like alot of revisited type programmes, just enough to get you up to date. The presenter seemed alot more comforable with it, no more of those "you own this much of house" graphics.
Really pleased that they did it, they seem like a great family with a lovely lifestyle.
Anyone know if the chocolate shop guy will be in this series? I didn't notice him in the intro.0 -

I think the answer is in the programmes from the first year. All the participants had a hobby/skill/talent/burning interest that the program makers suspected could be turned into a business venture and that probably applies to an awful lot of us - for example, I used to make bits and pieces of jewellery for friends, I now have a thriving eBay business that turns over nearly £2k a month selling jewellery-making equipment and am in the process of setting up my own website to sell off eBay.

Agree completely, I was thinking the same thing...
Bit like it being the 1970's and Rene saying, "here we have a guy named Bill Gates, he's just developed a computer programme, we're going to see if he can pay his mortgage off in 2yrs"
Now if they followed me, fixed income, no product to market, I think the outcome of the 2yr challenge would have been very different.0
