Yes, thank goodness - it was a real pain for those of us who visit this site on a regular basis.

I have seen forums on the Internet running from MySQL Databases that have had 30,000 users online and they are still fast, so it wouldn't be a database problem.

Avatar's were turned off to try and save a bit of server load yesterday and last night: [thread]132049[/thread] and one of the server's has gone down. (As it says in the site header)

Despite all of the many features of vBulletin, it should be able to handle a few thousand users at once without any trouble. Although the server problem probably doesn't help, it could also be vBulletin 3.0.6 doesn't interact with the latest versions of PHP and MySQL as well. (vBulletin is now version 3.5.3)

Hmmm, depends how powerful the server(s) the other sites have. I've got no idea how powerful the MSE forum server is though but it was very slow. That can effect the number of simultaneous connections the db can handle at once too.

Still, it could have been a number of things to be honest. Server may have been running a task? Maybe a routing problem? etc...

I still think the site could be optimized, for example the initial page has to load around 160kb of data which I'm sure could be reduced to under 100kb. Doesn't sound a lot, but multiply it over x number of requests and across every page and it starts to add up.

Sorry but this has been one of the most frustrating aspects of the forum performance issues! Some users were reporting that everything was fine for them while others users could not log-in or the performance had slowed down to a snails pace! The techies have now discovered that the user load sharing across the servers was not working correctly, so progress is slowly being made but they do need the user feedback.

 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:
